I'm starting a new build. I am going to video this one and have my first real YouTube series. I got the balls today and I'm waiting for the other stock. The only thing that may present a problem is softening the ball bearings to machine them. Doubleboost pit his in his furnace for 20 minutes and let them cool slowly. I don't have a foundry or a propane torch. I want to build a charcoal fire with chunk charcoal and feed air to it with a hair drier. I know I can get them hot enough but I'm not sure how to let them cool. Can I leave them in the ashes and let the fire die or will that case harden them? I read a little about hardening metals a few years ago and one of the methods to case harden was to put the metal to cool in a can filled with ashes. Can I bury them in sand and cool them that way? Once I get that worked out the rest of the build will be a breeze.
