Sorry, didn't mean to imply you didn't do tapping on the machines back there.
After a few early snaps at inopportune times I don't do much power-tapping anymore : But what Blogs has, if you dropped a spring down the hole in the bit that fits the tailstock (assuming such hole is sufficiently closed at the far end) would be effectively the same as the spring-loaded center, and probably nicer to use as it has better control of the linearity of the tap handle with the job.
