Ok, I'm a newbie.... I think I have mentioned that in previous posts, but I just had to say that today I turned the lathe on for the first time, and made a few test chips facing a small brass rod. I know its a small step, but the facing went fine, and did I mention I had ground the toolbit on my own :) Sadly there will now be a break before Christmas morning, when the lathe officially "arrives".

Congratulations!
How cool was that!
A small step for man (person)...a giant leap for the machinist to be.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll update you when I actually get to work.

good going flint
look at the bright side you will have a lathe waiting for you @ Christmas time and you have almost two months to prep plans and parts for your first couple of projects. Do not go hog wild with cuttin stuf to lngth though some things are better left long then machined and parted off in the lathe.
So we expect an engine by New Year ??? just kidding on that one ;D
what is your first engine going to be.
also you have time to read up un lathe operations etc.
