I'm hanging my nose over a Gerbruder Thiel No 3 Filing and Sawing Machine.
Has anyone any experience of these?
I'm worried that it might be too large a capacity for general model engineering but would welcome experience and opinions.

My experience is limited but buying a machine that is too small seems to be a much worse limitation than buying one too big unless space is limited. I have a hard time turning a 10 inch diameter bar on my 7 inch mini-lathe.

I really don't think you can have too large of a capacity for a die filer. What you might run into is a lack of space that many of us suffer from. Generally the bigger "old iron" machines had a lot of mass and good balancing that allows them to run smoothly, that is a bigger deal that size
