I have plans for a small drill press that uses endless rubber belts. Unforently, the plans are about 50 years old. What could I use instead?
The plans are available at vintageprojects.com under precicion drill press.

Thanks
Wes

Endless rubber belt is a very good discription of an O-ring.

Cheers Dan

Well, I never thought about an o-ring. but i have to find one about 10'' streched out and no thicker than 1/4''.

My Benchmaster mill uses a round rubber belt on the table feed motor. I just take the old belt to the sewing machine repair shop and match it up. New belt is usually a $1.00. Mine is about 7" or 8" circumference and they do come longer.

Suggest you also look in the department store vacum cleaner section for the belts for the old Hoover type floor vacum. They are about 1/4" in cross section, maby a little less, AND THEY ARE MADE JUST FOR THE PURPOSE YOU ARE LOOKING FOR!

I would think they would have less stretch than the typical "O" ring, therefore transferring more consistent power from your motor to the spindle!

Good luck
