Hi all,

My father recently passed away. I'm trying to figure out the model of his Derbyshire lathe (750 or A) and what it might be valued?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Looks like much is missing, if that is the case you might be lucky to get $100.

Keep it in memory of your father. It can be used for basic operations which may be all that you need. In addition, it's small and portable so a good reason to keep it.

Even though I have a few industrial sewing machines in my 'other' machine shop, I still keep my wife's mother's home machine in its nice wooden cabinet. I'm sure that with a little oil it will sew again if I need it.

Just think of the fun your children will have when they discover this mini lathe after you are gone.

Looking at the types of prices this stuff is selling for on eBay he's likely to get a fair chunk more than $100 just for the bed alone. These lathes seem to be sort-after for some reason.

With all the accessories you should look for $700 to $800 at least

Hi Robyn,

Like my father, uncle and brother I earned my living repairing watches, clocks and jewellery and my father used a 10 mm Derbyshire lathe all his working life. It was ex War Department and he bought it on leaving the Fleet Air Arm at the end of WWII. This lathe he used for 40 years, the lathe you have looks as if it has about the right amount of equipment for a jobbing watch repairer. As to its valve I wouldn't know; my Dads when we checked its age was supplied to the military in WWI not WWII as he always thought. It has done a lot of work over the years my brother uses it now.

Regards Tony.

I guess it depends upon the local conditions but from what ive seen at some auctions in complete watch makers lathes "can" go for a song. At the same auction i saw a complete set of collets, several in fact, go for well over $1500 a set.

In the end selling involves finding somebody willing to pay the asking price.
