Hi, i am a newb and want to purchase another er32 chuck for my lathe, i already have one on an mt3 shank and need one for mt2 shank. my question is i see that mt2 comes in "3/8" inch. but no explination on what the 3/8 inch is for. what i want to do is purchase another chuck and just re-use my current collets out of my mt3 er32 chuck. im wondering if the 3/8 is the drawbar size or something. but the main question is if i buy one that is mt2 and says "3/8" and it is an er32 like my other one, can i just re-use my current collets?

if the 3/8 is the measurement for the collets, then where/how do i measure my current ones to see if they are the same correct size or not?

thanks in advance.

3/8" is the drawbar thread size.

thank you both for the answers. mine is a mill lathe combo, i just purchased a rotary table with a mt2 taper in the center. for my first chuck / need for current project i want to use a collet chuck. i just didnt want to have to buy all new collets again. difference between 20.00 and 130.00. roughly after shipping.

my current er32 is for the mill head so you are right.

will probably have lots more questions once i start looknig for 4 jaw chuck for it. but ill try to self educate before hand.

thanks again.
