Hi,
I have in another thread started an old project building an 0 gauge model of an 18" gauge Tram engine which uses a vertical boiler. I am about to start on the design of its boiler which will be heated with gas. Some months ago while looking for some thing to play with and having designed and made several ceramic burners; I though how would Nichrome mesh work instead of ceramic? So two existing burners had their ceramic elements replaced with Nichrome mesh. The results:
I am going to try designing and make a burners specifically for Nichrome. It should be possible to make it a lot lower than a ceramic one so, give a larger water capacity in a vertical boiler. Not sure how much if any difference there might be in heat output and anyway I have no means of measuring it.
Happy New Year.
Stay safe. Tony.
