John I agree the 40tpi threads do look and feel nice but there are times when something a bit heavier is needed, forget those namby pamby little threads when you have a decent size model you need a decent pitch thread and the tools to cut it with ;D ;)

This is the silencer (muffler) for the 1/2 scale Domestic I'm working on, about the same size as your R&B and it needed a 3/8" BSP thread to suit the malable iron elbow.

Regarding the Stuart prefered sizes they are actually a bit of a PITA as none of the commercial fittings use those dia/pitch combinations.

Simon,

Did you buy carbon or HSS?, as I can only comment on the carbon ones, never having ever bought HSS taps and dies from them.

One thing I can say about Tracy Tools, their reamers are great. I bought a set of 1/8" to 1/2" in 1/64ths, MT2 taper, and they are great, as are their set of 1/48 taper reamers, I can't fault them at all, especially for the price.

Jason,

I know I am going to have to start thinking of more heavy threads when I start the R&B.
I do have all the BSP, BSW & BSF to look to though, and if they won't do, I have the dreaded metric ones to keep me going.

These poor US lads must be spinning in their socks seeing us talking about Imperial threads they have most probably never encountered.

Reports of the demise of Imperial measure in the USA are greatly exaggerated! ;D
