Having just got a set of castings for this engine at a very good price, I am looking to see if anyone has already built one.

After spending a couple of hours last night searching for builds, with no avail, then it looks like it might be a nice one to do a full article on.

The reason I am asking is that although this will not be built anytime soon, I do like to get EVERYTHING together first so that when the time comes, I don't have to do any more research or material searching.

John

It was in ME 163-165. Not one you see very often so doubt it mas made it to the web, I don't recall seeing it.

Thanks Jason,

I will see if I can get someone to copy the articles for me.

I would have no trouble making the thing, but articles usually show up any errors in the plans, which could soon lead to a costly error before it was spotted.

Peter,
Thank you for posting the picture.
Very nice build.
That is the version which I hope to build, the one with slide valves, it should be a little more steam efficient than the piston valve version and less prone to leak on the valving system.

Hi John,
Yes you are quite correct in that the slide valve is more efficiant than the piston valve.
With the piston valve it's very hard to get a steam tight seal on the piston valves themselves and that's why when I built mine years ago I capped the top of the valve box with a Hex nut and extended the bottom of the valve box and fitted an "O" ring.
It still leaked but it was into the exhaust system and didn't look so bad.
If I was to build another it would be the slide valve one.

George.
P.S. photo copies posted this morning.
