Beginner plan?

Hi everyone, I just got a small block of steel and piece of 2" diameter barstock, and I was wonderng if anyone had any plans for a simple beginner model? I have a lathe and a milling machine, cylinder hones ect. I just want a small "popper" that I could power a desk fan with. Thanks!

Charlie, Do you mean a sterling engine or an atmospheric engine or or a small IC engine or what? That would help us direct you.

Internal combustion, should have said that in the beginning. I have some miniature spark plugs from a model boat engine that I can use. (they're not glow plugs, I had them checked at the hobby shop)

Charlie, you may have seen already some of the hoglet and webster build logs which may be a starting point. Not sure they are true beginner models but depending on skill levels and experience, probably doable. There are far more experienced IC guys here that I hope will offer further and no doubt better guidance.

Charlie. To avoid dissapointment on your first build i would go for a simple steam engine to get the feel for making pistons and cylinders etc. Good luck on whichever you decide.

your introduction tells little about your machining experience. In general start simple an air engine. A mcCabe runner or a LMS oscillator .
