I just thought I would show you what I picked up off eblay for 20 squid (about 25 bucks) plus postage. They came yesterday, but I didn't have time to look at them until this morning.

Both commercially made units with full scale markings.

Both these are for use with a surface grinder, first, on the left is a jig for grinding up lathe tools, and on the right a jig for resharpening slitting saws and other multi toothed tooling.

A super happy blogs.

Great find! There are definitely some great deals to be found, just need to be patient and jump on them when they come. Bought my X2 mill from craigslist for less than half price with some tooling! Some people are willing to get rid of things for next to nothing just to get them gone. Again great purchase!

Ken,

Just by carefully waiting, I have managed to completely retool my surface grinder for diamond and standard wheel dressing and tool grinding, including new and used diamond wheels for about £200 ($300).

That is about 1/10th of the cost if I had bought all the items new.

All they need is a wipe over with fine wire wool to remove the patina, and like all the other tooling I have bought, they will come up as good as new.

Just one more item to go, for sharpening side flutes, then everything will be complete.

As I said, there are bargains to be had.

I agree with you Blogs, there are many bargains to be had out there

I surf the net and eblay particulary for such things, like you
but I noticed that the most part of bargains are in countries like USA, Great Britain and Germany

in Italy the number falls dramatically, and the few interesting pieces that can be found are expensive (so, not a bargain!). I have never seen an auction in Italy starting from 1 euro (on metalworking related items)!

and because these items often are heavy, buying them in other countries means to pay much for the postage (again, the bargain is gone).

but I'm always alert, and everywhile I get a bargain too ;)

I don't know if my recent buy can be classed as a bargain, but I got this for just over a third of new price:

With a new 6" rotary table costing around $700NZ,I got the whole shebang for $425NZ,so I was quite happy.
It had only been used once just after purchase in 2000,then put away on a shelf.A few marks, but otherwise like new.
The chuck was mounted on the table with a brass plug in the centre, and 3 little brass angles fixed in place with self tappers!
Since the holes are already there,I might just drill them out,and tap them for machine screws. In fact,I don't know how chucks are normally mounted on the rotary table.Could anyone enlighten me?The table has a 2 morse taper in the centre,so I presume that is used somehow.
The brand is Tru-pro,which no longer makes metalworking tools.Oddly,my drill press is the same brand! But I can't fault the quality,it's very smooth in action.

Nice buy BP.

That is the standard RT that is marketed from the far east. Because it has the four slots, I gather it is an early 6" one. Later ones only usually have 3 slots.

Is the chuck the same size as the RT or is it a little smaller?
The reason being, if it is the same size, and because you have four slots in the RT, it would be rather difficult to mount in the normal way.

If you don't mind drilling into the RT table, you can just put a centring spigot into the MT in the centre, locate the chuck onto it, and drill thru the chuck (in the area between the jaws) and drill into the top of the RT. Then just thread RT top, open up the holes in the chuck and bolt thru.
The only other way if the chuck is smaller than the RT, is to make a conversion plate that goes between the chuck and RT.

Hi,John. The chuck is in fact a 5" one.Since the holes are already there,I think I'll just drill and tap those for machine screws, and make up some stronger angle brackets.
It's less work than making an adapter plate .
I hope Bandit is keeping the workshop free of rats and other assorted intruders :big:.

Hans,

Bandit very rarely comes into the shop now, unless it is to accompany the better half. Ever since she has been ill, Bandit swapped loyalties from myself to my wife, and follows her about everywhere. He sometimes even growls at me when I get too close.
