Oh wait - Krispy Kreme pulled out of Minnesota. Gah! Shiver me timbers, scuttled me ship before even headin' out of port! Blister me barnacles, and stuff. *facepalm* I could just go for a donut too. Oh well.

Several years ago Krispy Kreme came to town and built a big fancy doughnut shop about 2 blocks away. They were all set to take over the doughnut business in the Kitchener-Waterloo twin cities area.

Tim Horton are the doughnut kings in Canada. They also have some shops in the US. There are about 40 listings for Tim Horton in the yellow pages but not all are listed there. There are probably the same number for various competitors. Kitchener-Waterloo is the doughnut capital of Canada. It is never more than a couple of blocks from 1 coffee/doughnut shop to the next 24/7/364. They close for a while Christmas day.

When Krispy Kreme opened they made a big splash but after the first day they couldn't give their doughnuts away as fast as their competition could sell them. They went out of business and left town about a year later. The property was sold and converted to a nice family diner where I have enjoyed several nice dinners.

Krispy Kreme! I don't miss them one bit.

Frankly, neither do I. Their donuts are blah.

I visited Canada a couple of times, a few years ago, and Tim Hortons were very welcome. They Honey Kruller is my favourite - it's elegant simplicity. Plus they have great coffee, and nice sandwiches.

There are no Tim Hortons in Minnesota yet, so some crazy motorcyclist friends and myself are likely to ride up to Thunder Bay one of these days, simply to visit the TH there.

We do that kind of thing.

Today, I rode 600 miles just to have some good fish and chips.

They were VERY GOOD fish and chips.

Funny thing, when I was posting the above note I was thinking about putting in a piece about you taking a drive up to Thunder Bay to Tim Horton's. It would be a nice ride if the weather was good. I lived in Thunder Bay for 5 years back in the 70's. Good luck with getting a Timmie's in Minnesota.

Maybe you should check into getting a TH franchise in Minnesota then everybody would be coming to you. Something to think about!
