I'm working with a new hire in my office.
He is an accomplished wood carver and in the course of casual conversation he said
he wished Dermel made a model scale wood lathe.

About 30 years ago they did, and naturally I have one of them.

I'll be passing that little, model scale, wood lathe along to the new guy on Monday, complete
with the set of gouges, centering head and all of the other tools that came with it.

Give me a month and I'll have him turning steel on a metal lathe. ;)

Geez Rick, wish I had a boss like you in my working days. The most I ever got was a slap on the back and an "atta boy". I'm not complaining but holy moly, a lathe - you're the best

Dremel made that little wood lathe for a few years back in the mid to late 1970's.

I can still remember the day I bought it in 1979. I was determined to make a complete chess set.
I still have the two Pawns and single Rook that I made with it laying around here somewhere.

Paid $35.00 for that little model wood lathe while working at a minimum wage job earning $2.35 an hour.
That was a BIG MONEY PURCHASE for a 19 year old! :D

The gift does come with conditions.
NEVER SELL IT!
Run it until it burns up, or pass it along to someone else.

Maybe I'm just determined to sucker more people into this addictive of a hobby. ;)

Good for you Rick! I hope he does come around to the metalworking side of things. Maybe you should also require that he join HMEM as a condition of the gift as well :D. But truth be told there is a place for woodworing skills too re: this months banner photo, MB's bases and electrical box for his Upsher(s) and others. That's a neat little lathe in any case.
