Recently finished up making a Poppin flame engine. Since seeing one many years ago I have always wanted one.

On completion it started on the second try which surprised me, I was expecting to have to do a bunch of tweaking.

Built pretty much to the plans with only a few exceptions:

Graphite piston, increased to 3/4" from 5/8" on plans
Powder coated cast iron cylinder
Ball bearings rather than bushings.
Tiny Tig fusion weld spots on crank rather than pins

Nice job sparky. I made one of those, (probably from the same plan) a few years ago. The thing that stands out in my mind was buying a die to thread that 1/16" rod which opens and closes the flame hole. I never threaded something that small before. I'll probably never use that die again.---Brian

Thanks Brian. YES the engine has some real tiny parts, 0-80 threads for example. For a idea of scale, the flywheels are 2-1/8 inches diameter.
