My X axis scale on an old Accurite III DRO drops out or flatlines at various points - as might be expected mostly in the middle.
I suspect it is worn out - I have cleaned it thoroughly and checked all the connections / cables.

Any comments suggestions.

The scale is 940mm between its mounting holes (it is fitted to a Standard - Bridgeport knockoff) - any recomendations for a supplier of new / reconditioned / second hand.

First prize is in South Africa but unlikely (hope springs eternal and all that).

The local agent want an arm, leg and unmentionable body part for a replacement.

Thanks,

Ken

Hi Ken

It's possible that the scale uses a standard interface... I'm actually in communication with Scott at TheDROStore.com at the moment, and this very morning received a quote on a DRO and glass scales delivered here for less than half the price any local or RSA company quoted me so far.

Maybe you can contact Scott and ask if the scales they supply are compatible with the Accurite ? - He responded very promptly to my email requests. We don't get special postage charges to Southern Africa though :(

I.m actually sitting here turning over the old credit card trying to decide whether I must take the plunge or not...

Kind regards, Arnold

Thanks Arnold, I'll follow up on that.

I'm also considering replacing the entire rig with a three axis kit - and transplanting the Accurite to a lathe (which I haven't got yet) - like you it all depends on the money.

Regards,
Ken

Hello Ken,

I have purchased replacement scales for Accurite DRO's through this company: http://www.digitalreadoutsystem.com/

The trouble with finding a compatible replacement is the connector, which this gentleman grafts an actual Accurite one onto a new Jenix linear scale. The prices are very reasonable, however I believe it is a part-time business that he runs after his regular working hours and sometimes you have to be a bit patient on receiving your items from him. But as far as service and quality, they are excellent and he is also very knowledgeable. I have replaced four glass linear scales with the Jenix ones and have been more than pleased with the results. He also sells complete systems for very good prices as well. Hope this helps.

I noted on his website that the Accurite scales aren't listed at the moment, just the Sargon scales which he does the same for, however it is probably something that he still does if he can find the Accurite connectors. Worth a try anyway if you are looking to replace just the one scale.

Regards,
Mike
