Anyone know where I can purchase a set of 48DP cutters from, ebay seems to be lacking on DP sets, module sets are everywhere.

I now have a son resident in Seattle, so a U.S. supplier that won't post to Australia is OK.

Paul.

Thanks guys, I've checked out the sites. The other option is to make a hobbing cutter, I've done it in the past, will have a bit of a think about it..

Paul.

Paul, apparently, the .5 Module is very close to 48DP. (48dp = .5288Module according to a chart I found online somewhere)

Hi Paul,

GlobalIndustrial.com has the 48DP and all the # cutters we want but they won't accept International PayPal Account. I may have to go metric.

Paul,

Please advise pressure angle--------14.5 or 20 degrees.
Just check pricing .Its US$45 per pce. I may take a gamble and go for Module 0.5. All 8 cutters for US$100 plus. Please keep me posted.

A few projects back I bought a set of the .7 module cutters from ctc gears, about $100 for the set, been very happy with them, used on brass only so cannot say how they would hold up on other materials.

Thanks for all the comments, I will try to answer them all at once. The hobs on eBay are cheap, however unless you have a dividing head that rotates in sync with the hob, they are no good. They have a pitch like a thread on them and are made for gear cutting machines.

I realise that .5module is very close, I will have to lay it out on my CAD to see if I can change to it, the biggest problem is the centre distances to each gear change, I'm not very optimistic that I can alter things.

The pressure angle stated in the drawings is 14 1/2 deg, the only reason is that the cutters are much cheaper than the 20deg ones, the angle is not important on model engines. The 14 1/2deg cutters are about $45 each.

I have a set of Mod 1 cutters that I purchased from CTC, they are great, however they don't have DP cutters. I also purchased then for about $100 the set.

Making my own hob is looking more likely at the moment.

Paul.
