I have always admired the craftsmanship of the members who make 4 stroke engines. They are beautiful. Can some of these 4 stroke designs be modified to run on compressed air? Or is that just wishful thinking?

I suppose if you changed the valve timing you could get a 4 stroke to run on compressed air. Of course you do not need a compression stroke in the engine so you could make the engine a 2 stroke, open the "intake" valve on the down stroke of the piston and open the "exhaust" valve on the up stroke.

Drop in a new cam and run compressed air to the intake manifold. It would be like half of a steam engine with the compressed air only pushing the piston in one direction.
