    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Hold your finger over a spark plug hole. Not looking for an absolute value. Just that the valve timing is such that you have compression at all. Oops. Assuming you can get a spark plug out.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Do you feel suction if you put your finger over the carb air inlet? With your finger over the inlet will it suck gas? (assuming clear gas line tubing you should see it move) Is the tank fuel level at or very close to the carb level. Is the needle valve open a bit? All stuff you know but....

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Well. There ya go. And loctite is the answer?? (NOT) The plugs don't really need to be tight. Use an O-ring under them to get you going until you can make some copper washers. Just a bit over finger tight is all you need with an O-ring.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

Don't you have the usual copper washer/gasket/ring on your spark plugs?

I think the flexible filaments would work. But the shape might be an issue. Worth a try though.

    Upshur's opposed twin engine

At the Indiana show Roy asked me if I could deliver the package to you. I'm not as close to you as he thought. Apparently (he said) that he did not charge you for the boots etc. because the shipping alone was $15US - ish. It's getting hard to build anything these days when everything includes...

    A new ignition circuit

That's fine. Folks can use whatever one they want and ask if they don't get it.

    A new ignition circuit

Good. It's always harder to explain it (write it out) than it is to do it. Also you'll notice I went back and corrected my error(s) for future readers. Not sure if it got any clearer

    A new ignition circuit

Sorry. I made a mistake in my dissertation in post 268 I have gone back to (hopefully) correct / clarify it. So Yes. Time the engine initially (like you said) by the LED going OFF when turning by hand. Just like you do with points etc on a typical engine. Then use a timing light to fine tune...

    A new ignition circuit

Unless you have really excessive dwell (points closed - Hall active) then under normal operating conditions - even at cranking speeds - the spark for all intents and purposes "appears" to happen when the LED comes on. Yes, it really happens when the LED goes out, but as mentioned there normally...

    2024 Indiana model engine show

Hmm. I was there Friday to set up and I went around to all the cars. You just had to make your way through the exhibitor tables to the far wall and come at them from the back. Maybe they changed something. I never went down to the lower two levels where apparently there were trucks. Someone said...

    Powder painting a flywheel

I guess it depends on which outlet and when I guess. They had basic black and white when I was there a year ago. Stuff always comes and goes there. You picked a good local supplier so you're all set. I believe I bought some food grade white from them a couple of years ago. As you know there are...

    Powder painting a flywheel

Princess Auto in the last year or so started stocking the painting systems and (although they don't show them on line) a limited selection paints. https://www.princessauto.com/en/powder-coating-system/product/PA0008634230

Three piece mold for sparkplug boots

Yeah. Damn. Too bad. They were nice. As mentioned probably a junk yard where all the defunct vehicles from maybe 2019 or so. If they haven't been turned into razor blades already. The parts stores can probably figure out which cars had them.

Three piece mold for sparkplug boots

Dorman #47410 soft vacuum elbow is what I use on all my engines with 1/4-32 plugs. Used to be available at almost every car parts supplier. But last time I checked they had to order them because the cars they used to be used on are all in the scrap pile by now. Pretty cheap, nice looking and...

    Powder painting a flywheel

As suggested, practice on a piece of scrap. There is a bit of a learning curve. You'll be in a world of hurt if you screw up the flywheel. It's a royal pain to get the paint off after.

    Powder painting a flywheel

You don't need anything so elaborate. I just hang my parts from stiff bare wire.. Coat hangers work if you clean the paint or varnish off at the touch/connection points. Put a large hook in the end and hook the hole in the wheel and hang it up. With your setup - I'm wondering how you are going...

    Powder painting a flywheel

BTW. I should add that I had no problem with the cast aluminum using the pre-heat first. I believe I pre-heated to 450 and cured to 400.

I figured you might know all of that but posting is as much for others that might be reading.

    Powder painting a flywheel

BTW. If you need to mask portions. You can use tin foil or better, Kapton tape and (reusable silicon plugs and caps. (Caps and Plugs company in Mississauga has everything you need).
