    Overhead Cam Project

Oh goody, nice neat design with enclosed crank that can be lubricated correctly and doesn't look like a Hardly Dangerous with a leg thrown out of bed.

    PHOTO bucket

Another problem with forum hosted pics is when some twonk decides to copy / paste a post with say 20 embedded pictures just to ad "nice job" at the end. One forum I moderate on, if I see this type of post I just delete it with no reason given. Same with the Google Goons who do noting but post...

    Arduino Rotary Table for Dummies

Doubt it. At only 4:1 the cutting forces may be too great that they will force the table to jump steps.

    AL320G - Threading Dial

There are plenty of variations on the swing threading tool. John has shown his and I have seen some where they use index-able tips to achieve the same result. This is mine which has two tool holders. A normal single point one, made from a parting off tool, the red one, and a holder made to take...

    AL320G - Threading Dial

Don't worry John. If is wasn't written by Hart, Cleeve, Thomas, Westbury then it's not worth considering. Or should be according to a few diehards who never had a unique thought in their tiny brains and can only regurgitate the same old again and again.

    mach 4?

Newkye was the company that we bought from, OK to deal with, very prompt and if you want any manuals first to make a decision they will post you an English PDF file. I have had absolutely zero problems dealing with Aliexpress. One thing with Aliexpress is they hold your money in escrow until...

    mach 4?

Got to agree with Ron here that the world has moved on. We had issues looking for a system that would thread on a lathe. Mach 3 is dead in the water as it can only use the index pulse and none of the add on controllers like CS Labs, although they can read an encoder thread correctly. Mach 4...

    mach 4?

Mach 4 is a work in progress. Problem is it's been 5 years in the works......................... Screens can be modified in Mach 4 but you need to be a programmer, nothing like as easy as Mach 3. Mach 4 is not a stand along program like Mach 3, it needs an external motion card which Mach...

How loud are 7x12 mini lathes?

Don't bother about it, just turn the TV up. People will accept loud TV's more than they will machine tools. With a TV you are normal, with a lathe you are a freak :D

    Indexing head

First one I built had a massive type 42 motor on it and quite a low belt drive reduction. First job I did was a set of splines and after two splines the job was scrap as they were traveling in a spiral due to cutting forces. That went into the scrap bin and got replaced by a stepper driven...

    Toolmakers clamps

That's the problem with Joco design in that they can't be opened and closed fast with both knobs on the same side. Bazmac's design is the classic design that has worked well for centuries.

Did you give up on the Path Pilot conversion that I saw you on with on the Linux forum.

    Subaru model engine

Pretty certain it was this forum but could be mistaken. A while ago 3 + years ? someone posted a few pictures of a Subaru engine they were building. What they were doing was building a static model out of 1mm card and slicing the model up into layers which were then cut on a laser cutter. I...

    broken tap in aluminum cranckase

Going back over the replies to this thread it splits between Alum, welding a stud on, trepanning out oversize and plugging and drilling out with a carbide cutter. What many have not read is the size of this broken tap at 3mm. Alum whilst working for many is a bit hap hazard as it's sold under...

    broken tap in aluminum cranckase

I mentioned this in post #14. Whay anyone would want to mess about with Alum, even if they can get the right grade seeing as Alum is a generic name, puzzles me. Same for all the weird and wild guess but never do brigade who advocate welding a stud to a M3 tap inside a hole with not welding...

    broken tap in aluminum cranckase

Norman, If you can't post a coherent reply why bother. Nothing you have posted is helpful to the OP.

    broken tap in aluminum cranckase

Send it for anodising. that will remove the broken tap and any helicoil inserts that are fitted. Don't Ask.:mad:

    7x12 metal gears

Probably burn the motor out or the speed board.

    7x12 metal gears

Leave the countershaft one plastic as a fail safe. The countershaft is easier to change in the event of a snag but the spindle one is a lot harder.
