    ML7 arrives in the garage

Hello all, I have finally landed myself an ML7, it is without a doubt looking worse for wear. However all may not be as bad as they appear. After taking the heavy stuff off I managed to wedge it all into the car despite the broken back seat that won't fold down. Everything including a...

Pointless saying this to another tight arse ;), but Mike's models sell the adaptors you need. Also as above the thread is 7/16" NS thread 27TPI. GAS FILLER ADAPTOR WITH 7/16" NS THREAD Jon

Another new guy planning first engine

Welcome, for simple steam engines such as the occilators mentioned above have a look at these two sites. Pick a simple one to start with. And go from there. Nearly all shown can be built using bar stock so therefore cheap if you make a mistake...

    Build a mini caterham

Off topic but one of the most fun R/C cars I owned was a Traxxas Stampede, Went anywhere and I don't think I ever broke anything on it, even taking it over tree roots and down a 30' slide. Great memories! Jon

    Thrashing machine

John Hainings thresher was serialised in Vol148, 149, 150, &151 of model engineer, its a complete working replica internals and all, and if you could grow scaled crop, then the machine would thrash it for you. I have obtained Vol 148 & 149, and onwards from 156, but im still missing around 8-10...

    Wizard lathe restoration

John, I'm afraid there isn't anything that can be done about the spray of oil, if the bearings are adjusted correctly, the effect will be minimised. However the flow of oil through the "total loss" plain bearings is essential for maintaining lubrication to the spindle. Grease is not an option...

    Wizard lathe restoration

If you go to this site, and search Adept, there is quite a few mods which have been detailed for the Adept lathe, which would probably be suitable for the Wizard. http://www.itech.net.au/modelengineer/me_response.php Less results for the Wizard lathe. Hope these may be of help. I searched...

    Wizard lathe restoration

One option is to buy a DC motor (For electric bikes), and a 240-24v transformer. These motors come in a range of power output, and been DC have more guts to them. Alternatively as John suggested on my adept thread. Using a shower pump motor as a direct replacement.

    Wizard lathe restoration

It you get a 3/16" milling cutter, and an angle plate, set the angle plate up on the cross slide, at 45°, then set the work up on the angle plate, at the desired angle for the tool to "lean in" to the work. Then mill the slot, the cutter will mill out oversize anyway and you'll be pretty close...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

Can you elaborate for the lesser knowing, what do you need dxf for, is it for printing, laser cutting, or just to export an entire model with all parameters, dimensions included. I still finding my way through Fusion 360, and CAD in general, and I have a free licence for personal, not for...

    2" Durham and North Yorkshire

More work tonight on the wheels, and before I head to bed, I thought I would show where I'm upto. Set about the rear wheels, removing the timing belts that had been used as tyres. These had been stuck on with what looks like some kind of epoxy glue. However it's brittle in places, so I suspect...

    2" Durham and North Yorkshire

Has it really been 7 months, my word I should have my arse kicked. I got myself a large metal bench the other day, and this has increased space to be able to work. So With the lump of box section, angle, and sheet that is my bench, I dragged it into position and laid all the parts out...

Little Adept lathe for my 5 year old

The other option is to make it and see, it seems thin, but considering that the adept isn't capable of 20thou cuts on material, the pressure if sharp tools are used, exerted on the bottom of the tool holder, is reduced significantly. It rather depends on ham fisted owners who tighten the M4...
