Is there a program to make a 3D model with measurements that is free?

Hi all, I use 3 programs, Fusion 360 is reasonable at 3D, not brilliant at 2D. Excellent Drawings. LibreCad for 2D and quick DXF for Fusion, OpenScad for most of my quick and easy 3D and use a converter I have made to generate 2D files for import into LibreCad for dimensions. One think you will...

What Determines the rpm of a engine?

An interesting point on engine design and camshaft choice is the same cam profile on a large engine used on a small engine produces an entirely different power curve. When a cam is designed the physical size of the engine in capacity will determine the cam angle settings. You can’t take a cam...

    Welder

Just a little bit of advice, no welder is “easy to use”, it takes 4 years to do a welding apprenticeship and that is not something you learn from watching videos. Mig, stick, tig, laser all require a thing called muscle memory to use, that takes time. This involves the automatic ability to hold...

    Carb talk for Beginners

Just a little info I have found over the last 50 years as an engine tinkler ( 16 State and National titles in catergories as. Diverse as GoKarts, dirt bikes, rally, speedway and road racers), the one thing most people get wrong on carburettors is the size of the wells in which the main jet...

Needle bearings in a model diesel ?

Have a look at outboard engine, some of those use split roller bearings.

    Precision?

Precision is relative. Simple but true statement. I’ve worked in many fields, from level 1 Machinist, CNC machinist, project management, maintenance management, leading hand, etc in machining , welding, fabrication, sheet metal. The one leading cause of failures, bar nothing, has always been...

Are lathe tool carbide inserts supposed to be sharp?

In essence carbide doesn’t lend itself to particularly sharp edges, however with todays coatings and superfine structure they do make “sharps”. They are a honed edge tool designed for aluminium or plastic. I have used them for over 10 years now and they are as good as any other for there...

    Homemade sandblasters .

https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Sandblaster?From=Search&s=Blasting i have used a couple of these. They work reasonably well. Might give you some ideas on making one. Australia.

    Homemade sandblasters .

Just a heads up, you should never use sand for sandblasting. It will give you silicosis. banned in most countries and places of work.

    CAD /Autocad Help

I’m not following you believe that a cad drawing and a paper draft drawing could be different if drawn to ISO specs. The dimensioning tolerances are expressed in the iso specifications on the drawing notation block. Unless other countries don’t use specifications on cad drawings, which by the...

    CAD /Autocad Help

An unfortunate side effect of the newer 3D cad programs is the need for vastly expensive computers to run them on. An example is a basic AutoCad system these days requires a water cooled video card with memory and computing power that is top of the range. Even small to medium Engineering...

    CAD /Autocad Help

2D drawing is additive, you add bits till you have a complete shape. 3D is the opposite, you start with a block(whatever shape) and you remove pieces, you mould pieces, you extrude pieces to get the complete shape. That is how I sell it to apprentice’s

    Poor mans slotting head

Rotary broaching is a nice technic. Made one to put a dodecahedron hole through some gears for a gearbox I made years ago. Tooling can be costly to make though, depends on what you are cutting.

    CAD /Autocad Help

I use LibreCad for 2D work and Openscad for 3D. I have designed complete roll cases with saws etc for Businesses I have worked for. From within OpenScad I have generated work drawings as DXF files that I bring into LibreCad to produce Production drawings for manufacture. total cost of Software...

    Poor mans slotting head

Blind hole keyways are usually terminated with a hole slightly over the key size. This maintains the structural integrity of the unit being keyed. Undercutting can lead to failure at the undercut.

    Cam/valve timing...

Try this video to assist. A lot of people find the terminology the hardest to understand. TDC = Top Dead Centre(piston is at the top of its stroke), BTDC = Before Top Dead Centre, ATDC = After Top Dead Centre, BDC = Bottom Dead Centre (Piston is at the bottom of its stroke), BBDC = Before Bottom...

    Cam/valve timing...

Cam timing works within the Otto 4 cycle - generally it goes something like this intake opens a small amount before Top dead centre (BTDC) ( the exhaust is open here on the close side of its cycle)on the overlap stroke, the piston goes down sucking in the fuel air mixture a little after Bottom...

How to limit swarf into the chuck ?

Disregard Mousetrap mate. Stupid is as stupid does. You have quite a legitimate question and many legitimate answers.

How to limit swarf into the chuck ?

All chucks from time to time need a clean to get rid of small amounts of swarf. If it is getting in quickly then I would look at the clearance on the chuck key gears. Most times it will get through from the scroll contact area of the jaws. This is however usually of very small amounts over...
