For Sale magnetic indicator holder (new, estate item)

Sorry to head things off on a tangent when you're trying to sell something, but... That's like the mutant offspring of a surface gauge and a regular indicator holder. I've never seen that type before. Do you have to use tools (Phillips screwdriver?) to set it up? Does it have a fine adjust...

    New mill and lathe.

Does this "pilot" taper at all? Mine has a slight taper. So far, I haven't found the details of taper. I'm toying with the idea of a collet chuck so I'd need to be able to make something with a good fit. Craig

    New mill and lathe.

Hi Phil: Maybe your Weiss machines are delivered in better condition than my Busybee but I think they are all built by the same factory/factories in China. I found a fair bit of grit mixed with dirty oil on the internals of mine. So far, I've disassembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled the...

    New mill and lathe.

AIUI, your Weiss lathe is virtually identical to the machines sold by Precision Matthews, Grizzly, Harbor Freight, Busybee (in Canada), Warco (in the UK), and others. I'm not familiar with Weiss though. Did you buy direct from them? What led you to choose them other the others? BTW, the...

Material selection for lathe replacement part

I think steel-on-iron would lead to extra wear so I agree that a cast iron part would be superior. Just curious, how did the damage happen? Was it due to the chuck crashing into the compound at speed? Surprised at the level of damage on what looks like a pretty small lathe. Craig

Can anyone help identify these various pieces?

The lathe was sold by Sears under their Craftsman label but the machine was made by the Atlas Press company. Likely from the 1940s or 1950s. Appears to be in good condition and I suspect you'll have no trouble selling it. These machines are small enough that a hobby machinist can move them...

It's time we read and relearn the forum rules!!!

In the 1970's, there were people saying the same kinds of things about young people. Like after the Kent State Massacre where parents were reported as saying 'They only got four. Should have been more." Rather than applying pergorative labels, maybe you could try to understand the world they...

    Wanted Threaded dial assembly

@cfranzetti I know you won't want to hear this, but I sold one last week via Kijiji (alternative to Craigslist in Canada). Joel at MyMachineshop.net _may_ have what you are looking for: http://www.mymachineshop.net/product_p/10286.htm The above is for the Atlas 6 inch Mark II. It looks...

You didn't mention CAD in the post I responded to. In case others are wondering, there are CAD options for the iPad such as Fusion 360: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/fusion-360/id991074843?platform=ipad and others: https://www.scan2cad.com/blog/cad/cad-ipad-apps/ Of course for this kind of...

    Browser

Curious if you considered an Apple iPad? Compared to the alternatives, the OS has the most privacy and security built-in that you can get in a consumer-friendly device. (IE, not something 'hardened' for high-security needs like an intelligence agency.) There are still chinks in the armour but...

    Linux "Q4OS"

@ShopShoe If you "don't want to spend a lot of time just for experimenting", what is prompting you to want to leave the Mac world? The recent MacBook and MacBook Pro models are really powerful and yet go far further on a battery than anything running an Intel processor. On macOS, the unix...
