Cliff Roemisch in SD has been using hydraulic cylinder material for a few of his ic engines and really likes them. Think he uses the stock bore and finish. If he is on this forum I hope he chimes in.

Why not make the cylinder out of CI? I always, in the past, made AL cylinders with CI liners, but building the Hoglet I went with CI cylinders as suggested by the author. They turned out fine and I'm glad I did. Makes a mess but that's OK. Seems not to be an issue for cooling. Might...

I'd say try it, but it would be a shame to put a lot of effort into something and then determine the material was poor/wrong.

The Parilla motorcycle was a hot number in the early sixties and ran with a single cam lobe running both valves. It featured very short push rods with the cam high up along the cylinder.

Peter, You are right and that's what I plan on doing if the tapered variety get too difficult. The only reason to pursue this is because the mechanics kit came with fittings of these sizes.

Misspelled should be "sprag" bearing or one way clutch bearing. Benjamin Franklin once said he had no respect for someone who could not spell a word at least three ways. I get mine from Boca Bearings, good prices and service. They seem to specialize in smaller sizes useful to us modelers.
