    Digital Pressure Gauge

Omron sells electronic pressure gauges as well as is a pretty good brand. It might be good to also install a regular pressure gauge as a backup. Digital gauges can do funny things over time, especially if subjected to steam.

    Flywheel with integrated fan

F360 does 5-axis tool paths doesn't it? I'm pretty sure that the Pocket NC folks include a 1-year F360 license with their bench top 5-axis mill. Mike

    robust industrial shelf construction tip

It's expensive, but you might Dexion (https://www.dexion.com/) or Unistrut (https://www.unistrut.us/), both of which make components to fabricate heavy duty shelving. Both product lines are old enough that there are probably work-alikes and clones around.

Breisch Olds 1/2 scale engine drawings

Agreed that the copyright is still in effect unless the author has moved it to public domain. I'm just exploring that possibility here, or that someone may know of a way to contact the current copyright holder.

Breisch Olds 1/2 scale engine drawings

Interesting discussion. I have a set of plans for an Otto-Langen engine by Emmett Lenaz that was to be built from stock and that are dated 1999. They are no longer in print or for sale so far as I can tell and I've had a couple requests for copies. I've refused to help as it is not clear if...

    270 Offy

We used magnetically coupled gear pumps in an R&D lab to pump water and even ethanol and it seemed to work fine. I believe that the manufacturer specified different gear and seal kits depending on the fluid being pumped.

    Making a distributor cap

I 3D printed a small distributor cap for a friend's IC engine, a little less than 1" OD. It was printed on a Zortrax M200 FDM printer in black ABS which is supposed to have decent dielectric characteristics. The print failed, mostly in the details which were a little too fine for the FDM...

    270 Offy

Terry, I didn't know that silicone was affected by gasoline so that's a new learned thing for the day. I was thinking that silicone is easy to laser cut with even one of those hobby lasers and doesn't suffer from cold flow the way that Teflon can, at least to my limited knowledge. They both...

    270 Offy

Would silicone rubber gaskets be an option for model IC engines like the Offy?

    Can Anyone Identify This Engine?

This is an interesting discussion on copyright issues. Years ago, I bough a set of plans for the Otto-Langen engine, from Emmet Lenaz out of Louisiana, who produced the plans I think. I've had several folks ask for a copy as the plans no longer seem to be available and my attempts to locate...

Wanted: Strictly I.C. set (or individual magazines)

One of these days I will be selling what I think is a full set of SIC. I'd have to check to see if all the drawings are still with each issue but they should be. In any case keep me in mind if your other deal falls through.

    No skills Charlotte, NC, USA

The 2-volume set of books, "Machine Shop Practice" by Moltrecht are an excellent intro to machining and make good bed-time reading.

    Tormach 1100 CNC software suggestions

I tried F360 but didn't like the way they do CAD. I started with Alibre about 12 years ago and still use but have now gone mostly to the free version of Onshape for non-proprietary work. Alibre is starting to sell a hobby version again that you may want to look into. I use SprutCAM for the...

    Tormach 1100 CNC software suggestions

From what I understand, Tormach also paid someone to write an improved motion planner and donated that code to the community. Non-Tormach owners can get a copy of PathPilot to modify for their own CNC mills and several Novakon owners have successfully done that.

    Water jet cutter

Thanks for those $/foot numbers - they mesh with what I was thinking. Nice job on that radius gauge, btw. That gadget would have been useful for a few past jobs.

Thanks Scott - I'd missed that on my 1st read.

    Water jet cutter

Ken - can you provide an estimate of the operating cost to cut, say, a 1 foot length of any metal that you work with? Just curious....

    Water jet cutter

The garnet cost and disposal could be an issue, too. I believe that the garnet is single-use, the lb/min is fairly high, and the spent garnet might be considered haz waste, depending on local laws and what you are cutting. The Wazer folks have published some material consumption data so that...
