    Stealing Whole Posts

My, that was over rather quickly. I'm glad too, things like that are not only irritating, but certainly don't leave me with the best taste in my mouth. I really enjoy websites like this, where I can share and get feedback on my own projects, and learn massive amounts from others. Events like...

    Atlas 10F Micrometer Stop

Been a while, but I finally got around to finishing this. Here it is. Clamps down rock solid on the lathe and works a treat. I call that a success.

What project to do with my grandson?

My first engine was a rocker. Ran smoothly right off the bat.

    Improbability Drive

Ken - Thanks. Time to start scrounging. :P

    Improbability Drive

I would absolutely love to build one, although a harmonic drive would be rather difficult to source for me. I'll have to start asking around.

    Improbability Drive

Oh... Well... Um... My mind is absolutely blown. That is awesome. Would you consider making plans?

Sidney 16 or Does anyone use big lathes here?

My opinion is that you can do fine small work on a lathe of that size. The only issue is that top speed. You'll need to be faster. I've made some of my smallest parts on a 24" cincinatti, but it went up to 2500rpm.

    Krazy Klockwork Mechanism

I love that book. I can't count the number of times I've gone through it. I'm definitely looking forward to your execution of this one!

    Cleaning Fine Pitch Threads

I'll be making a bunch of these, so I'll be sure to give that a go. Thanks for the tip!

    Cleaning Fine Pitch Threads

Toothbrush and a bit of WD-40 worked a treat. :) Better picture this time, too. I love brass. Everything just works so nicely with it. I wish I could afford to make everything from it.

Thanks. I'll give that a try.

    Cleaning Fine Pitch Threads

Hi all, Today I cut a 96 tpi thread in some brass. As you can see, there's lots of gunk the got stuck in the threads after cutting them. I took great care in cutting them, and they're fairly fragile. What would be the beat way of cleaning them without damaging them?

    Milling the Atlas 10" compound

That's interesting. Which version of safari are you using?

    Milling the Atlas 10" compound

I wanted to do some single point threading, but didn't have room to turn my QCTP on the compound. http://tinyworkshop.org/tools/modifying-the-lathe-compound/ So I made room. Problem solved!

    Printed circuit board, pcb, milling

Steppers. It's not all that rigid (built of Acrylic sheets, HDPE blocks, and some EMT conduit), but it does the job. I'm currently in the process of building a much more robust machine to replace it on PCB duty, but for everything else I throw at it, it performs admirably. Here's an example of...

    Printed circuit board, pcb, milling

I do a lot of PCB milling with a small gantry router. I find that it often only takes about 5 minutes to make a whole board. The long part is the drilling. With a carbite engraver, I can really fly when cutting the traces. I've been experimenting with lasering the mask for etching with the...

    Anodising

Certainly is nice to be rid of sulfuric acid. Maybe now I can try anodizing!

    Dual Rocking Engine

The main issue I face is scale. The chuck I have can't hold any parts smaller than 1/16", and certainly not accurately. As many of the parts are smaller and I can't afford collets, I'm a bit stuck. Any suggestions?

    Big Machines

The shop I worked at over the summer had a big ooya mill, probably a 12' x 5' table. Biggest I've ever seen in person, but I've heard of massive mills that would make that look like an X1 in comparison.

    Dual Rocking Engine

Regrettably, school started and other projects. I haven't yet worked up the nerve to continue work on the engine, but I may someday.
