How many have little or no woodworking equipment?

Chuck, I know that wood working and metal shops are not the best in the same room but you will kick your butt if you get ride of your wood tools..One thing you might do is buy some down sized machines. at least keep enough tools to do the maintenance for your home. and enough to make bases for...

    Re: First Engine No Plans.

shred, what brand is your filer? is it like this thing I have? Mine is missing or never had the variable speed thing. I think it was a variable speed pulley of some sort. I suppose I will have to do with a single speed machine. Mel

    Got the Die Filer home

I finally got into my Photo Bucket account, here is a photo of the All American Die Filer that my friend gave me. It's missing a couple of parts but still usable and I hope to find more operating instructions which should help me build some of the missing parts.

    Got the Die Filer home

Well as mentioned in another post, I was given a All American Die Filer. At first I turned it down, but on further thinking and discussion I went and got it today. It runs and is not all dinged up but the over-arm is missing I think it is something I can build. I searched google for a manual and...

Cutter Chatter on Thin Wall Parts

In my "other life" years ago I worked in a auto parts store for couple of years. We had a break drum lathe that we had to operate every once in a while. I can still hear that terrible ringing and chattering sound it would sometimes make. Then we found that if we stretched a big rubber band cut...

Filing machine from an old scroll saw?

Now I have to ask a dumb question. Just What, Why or When would I use a filer? Just last week a friend of mine tried to give me a filling machine, and I turned him down because of the limited space I have in my tiny shop. If there is a real advantage to having one I suppose I could stack stuff a...

Is the X2 the machine for me

Jim, I can't say much more than repeat what Steve has said. I lucked out and picked up a nearly new used X3 and then was able to sell my X2 for all most as much as I paid for it. My machines are the only two milling machines I've ever seen operated so I can't compare them to the other machines...

    Machining sequence

I have been bitten by the "Chuck's Horizontal Single" bug. I've downloaded all the photos and drawing I could find, they seem to be all over the place and I think I have enough to start the build. I just received my sweet little 3" cast bronze flywheels from Tiny Power today. Now I have to ask...

    Tailstock DRO

That's a pretty neat idea Rich. Now I want to know what the pretty blue drill thingy is. I'm not familiar with it. I embedded a machinists rule into the top of the tail stock ram. Now I have to build something like you did. Mel
