Cam for Elmer's open column twin

Hi Stan Yes, the cam is an approximation of a spiral - Elmer used three circle arcs to approximate it, though he does not refer explicitly to its construction in the text. The process he describes is basically an exercise in "milling to the line. I did a quick exaggerated drawing construction...

    Where's zeeprogrammer?

;D It's good to hear you're kicking high Carl - watch that tutu - just in case there's a bit of Scottish influence ;) Been missing the references to that Jelly Jar :big: Kind regards, Arnold

    Elmer's grasshopper question

Hi Stan. It is the steam/air connector. The hole on the side of the cylinder block is the exhaust. Edited to add: If I recall correctly, the Grasshopper's plans does not actually show a drawing for making the air/steam connector; you have to make that to suit your own needs. This is how I...

    Flapping around... Elmer's Kimble

Jim, thanks my friend :) This one's a bit slow - once it's done it'll join the others on the side-board in the lounge to trap unwary visitors :big:: There's some missing there; I've given away a couple, and others are paperweights in my office. The office ones might join this crowd at home soon...

    8" Steel Scotch Boiler

Looks great so far Bob  ??? I cant see from your drawing how you're going to easily get to clean ash/crud out from below the grate if you're going to use solid fuel. Kind regards, Arnold

    Finished Elbow engine

Thanks for checking in Pete. Oakspring, thanks; they are nice engines, especially to see running for real. Thanks Jim - it was a bit of a challenge to build, but somehow I'm finding my current build of Elmer's Kimble a bit harder. Good luck Chris - its a fun build, and from people's reactions...

    New headstock on old lathe

Hi Holt. I'm not sure what gears that specific lathe would use. Myford change gears are 20 DP (diametral pitch) which is 1.27 Module - and they have a pressure angle of 14.5 degrees. Kind regards, Arnold

Building KEN I Rotary broaching tool

Good going Jeroen Thm: If you want to temper the silver steel after hardening it, it must not get anywhere near red hot again; that will just anneal it and lose nearly all hardness. After hardening and grinding it, gently heat it on the shank side with a torch, and keep a close eye on the...
