Mounting a DRO on my RF45 clone mill

Thanks Ken :). I'm not sure if this kit is professional quality, but it's plenty good enough for my hobby needs. Now, what's this about "my bigger lather when I get it" stickpoke - are you getting some new toys ? ;D Dankie Andrew :) - I have a lot of old medium volume dot matrix printers lying...

Mounting a DRO on my RF45 clone mill

When I bought my mill two years ago, I commented that I'd get a DRO in my dreams. Dreams do come true sometimes ;D - it takes a bit of planning, budgeting, a bit of hard work and a stroke of good luck. And a supplier who's willing to ship to a way-out location at a fair price. Some weeks ago...

    Handy Tool

Nice video tutorial showing the tool in use John Thm: - Thank you! Vic, John Bogstandard has shown his version for use on the lathe. I can't remember if it was here on HMEM - definitely on MadModder though. The HMEM one on the mill you're referring to was by one of our German members if my...

    Wire tie tool

Very nice tool Marv. I especially like the "Double Wrap" method for binding; it's so much neater than twisting up the wire. Kind regards, Arnold

    Six Shooter Elbow Engine

Hi Ken :( No images here either. I had a quick look at your post's source - the image sources come up like this: The wrong part is the first http://= - that shouldn't be there. I removed those bits for now. Not that it matters much for me... Imageshack does not allow any of my local ISPs...

    "Dashpots" on a Corliss engine.

Hi Philip First off, Welcome to HMEM :) You're correct about the function of the dashpots as far as I'm aware. On full-size Corliss engines they used dashpots, as these could be tuned to easily control how much pull they would exert and how far they would pull. That's more difficult to do with...

I blame Stan, Andrew & Robert... A Lamina attempt

Thank you John :) - It wasn't that quick though as I got a bit tied up and didn't have much chance to post. Three weekends of off-and-on work; there's about 12 hours actual work in it. And I think I got very lucky with it; from what I've seen these engines can be real bummers to get going...

I blame Stan, Andrew & Robert... A Lamina attempt

Thank you John :) The saga continues... To keep things light, I used some aluminium bar scrounged from an old TV antenna for the small end connecting rod bearing. That was slit for the connecting rod: And cross-drilled for a wrist pin - I just used a bit of rod and coupler nut from the...

I blame Stan, Andrew & Robert... A Lamina attempt

;) The heading says it all; I'm attempting a Lamina flow engine. Stan did a lot of research and provided much feedback - thank you Stan  Andrew & Robert built their ones with a free dashpot sample for the piston. I can't get one, as it's for US shipment only, I'll just try and make my...

    Posting embeded photos

Hi Brian You need to use a third party photo hosting account like Photobucket. If you look at the pdf document from this thread, it gives step-by-step instructions. Hope that helps :) Kind regards, Arnold

Lubricating the x - y lead screw nuts on a mill drill

When I built the stand for my mill I was in two minds about fitting a coolant tray... I never did, and the mill's stand is basically just a frame and not closed up at the top, so now it's relatively easy to get at the feed screws and nuts from the bottom for cleaning, oiling and backlash...

    Making index wheels

Hi Pete If you have time and a bit of material, it's not difficult to make your own dividing head or rotary table - in fact, it's a load of fun. If you can screw-cut on your lathe and you have change wheels (gears) for it, a basic - and perfectly useable - dividing head or rotary table is easy...
