Is it possible to set up an apartment shop?

Since you are o n the ground floor things get much easier. Sound tends to travel down, not up. For cutting metals consider a portable bandsaw, HF has them on sale at present. I thing Gus is on this forum, he does all his work on a balcony. Cuts metal to size using a portable bandsaw bolted...

    Taig Lathe Runout

Been there, done that, on my Taig the solution was to shim the headstock up. Gerrit

Is it possible to set up an apartment shop?

I had no complaints from SHMBO when I was cutting or milling (Taig milling attachment on lathe). To prevent vibration transmitting into the concrete floor I made 3 silicone isolaters which sat between the lathe platform and desk. This was very effective...

Is it possible to set up an apartment shop?

Very doable: The lathe stores on a shelf under the 2 drawers

    Taig lathe base

I mounted mine on a piece of end panel from Ikea: Very portable. Their As-Is section is a wonderful source for wood.

    Myford Lathe.

That is a bargain given the prices of less complete used Myfords in Ontario of late! Gerrit

    Small stock storage

I am working up a storage solution using toilet paper rolls and paper towel rolls. 1/8" Masonite at the back to keep things from falling into the abyss behind the shelves.

Toyota 4 Cylinder Engine 22RE 3d printed model

Once it is printed it could be used to make a mold. And then cast with Devcon Al filled epoxy? Gerrit

    Taig and Sherline

I love mine too but the cross slide travel is still only 1.75" according to their web site? Sherline has 4.25" which makes for much better milling on cross slide. gerrit

    Taig and Sherline

The biggest issue with the Taig is its small cross feed travel. At 1.75" it makes use with a milling attachment challenging. As a lathe I love it, perfect for a condo sized machine shop. I have a Taig lathe and no milling machine yet :-( Gerrit

    CNC micro engraver/mill

This isn't their first foray into small milling machines. Search for Roland CAMM-3 PNC-3000 from 1980's. Gerrit

Poor Man's Digital Readout for Mini Mill

I love your creativity, in tooling and in your use of space. Living proof that it doesn't need to be fancy in order to work. Seeing your workspace in some posts last year encouraged me to start machining in our condo. Gerrit

My first home made model engine The Boll Aero 1,8

Hi Gerard Beautiful workmanship. Perhaps you can tell any neighbours that complain that you are hopping up your brommer? Or don't they do that anymore ;) My ambitious first motor is a Jan Ridders glass cylinder one, glass cutting this Sunday. Gerrit

Bad drill press vice. How is this acceptable!?

I am getting to the opinion that while the factory produces poor quality, it is the company that is ordering this stuff and then selling it to you that is the real problem. Why not start blaming the company selling this stuff to you? As with a recent thread on Grizzly and a surface grinder...

    Taig Lathe Modifications

The best way to follow is with an RSS aggregator such as Netvibes.com. I am trying as an experiment to use email subscriptions (just added to the site) for Taig related posts. You can subscribe and unsubscribe. Emails have an unsubscribe option at bottom. You would get 0-1 emails per day max...

    Taig Lathe Modifications

I have 3 mods/additions left on my list before beginning a Jan Ridders engine. One of them is wipers. I was planning to use square leather shoe lace but pipe cleaners I have as well. The containing block for the LH side of carriage is ready, I need it for an eventual threading attachment as well...

    Taig Lathe Modifications

My machine came to me pre-loved. Not sure if it was abused or not, e.g. there were steel filings embedded in the carriage casting, leaving lovely scratches on the ways. Removed the filings with a pick and all is fine. So who knows. Taig sells the basic machine separate from the tail stock as...

    Taig Lathe Modifications

Hi Edmund I agree that a thou here and there won't affect too many thing in our hobby, I generally machine things to fit the other part. But in my case the HS to TS centres were out >.005" vertically, which was enough to snap the tip off a very small centre drill :wall: while centre drilling a...
