Harold Depenbusch's hit and miss is another one to consider. I think the book with drawings is available from Lindays and other sources. Peter

    Piston Ring questions

George; I like your idea of a sized bushing to install rings, I think that would work well on very small bore sizes. The inside of the bush could even be tapered to the bore size to smoothly compress the rings. Peter

    Piston Ring questions

Hi Vince; .004'' is a good target for all ring gaps, I usually try for a little less and a careful break in. When measuring the end gap use the piston to push the ring into the bore to ensure it is square to the cyl. If the gap must be filed, go easy, a couple strokes at at time as the gap...

TDC is fine for a little engine, especially hit and miss. Even a little past TDC will help soften the blow when it fires. Peter

    Fairbanks Morse

Since I started posting about this engine partway through construction this will seem a little backwards. The governor adjuster unscrewed itself during the first test run, to correct this the gov. must be disassembled. The gov. is part of a cast assy. that bolts in front of the crankshaft on...

Fizgig - A rework in progress

Andrew; Thank you for the undeserved praise. This is a great little write up of your rebuild process. I likely would have just posted the video with a caption like " look at this it runs" Frazer; The drawings are free online, I'm not sure where anymore though Peter

    Fairbanks Morse

It's running! Not well yet, but I'm working the bugs out, first run it was firing on maybe every third compression. Tried some carb adjustments on the air valve but little help. The spark plug hole is very deep and opens into a recess above the intake valve, so I thought a longer reach spark...

Con. rod continued, After completing the con. rod I made the bearing halves using 6061 aluminum. Made two complete bearings and cut each one a little more than half. Each was set in it's seat and filed to the height of the rod/cap. Some controversy about aluminum bearings on HMEM in the past but...
