Using the Sieg mini mill to run a tap into steel?

I heard ya'll lound and clear. ;D I just drilled and tapped the new M14 stud to fit over the stock M8 stud. The QCTP is now mounted and there is no longer a need to tap a M14 thread.

Using the Sieg mini mill to run a tap into steel?

Got it! ;) Or, as I discovered last night, a simple aftermarket stud could solve the whole issue. http://www.littlemachineshop.com/products/product_view.php?ProductID=3712&category= But I think I will go ahead and drill/tap my compound anyway.

Using the Sieg mini mill to run a tap into steel?

lol... I've done dumber things before. ;D But on second thought, it's a bad idea.

Using the Sieg mini mill to run a tap into steel?

I was wondering if it would be possible to let the mini mill do the work of running a 14mm tap into a piece of steel. I want to tap a .500" hole so that I can mount a QCTP stud into the steel. Has anyone been doing this? I figured maybe by getting it to turn really really slow it might work...

How much cutting oil do I really need?

Thanks MB. Okay, my bad. The stuff I am using is called "Rapid Tap" cutting fluid, and it comes in a red and yellow can.

How much cutting oil do I really need?

I was cutting in a rectangular pattern so it was climb cutting in one direction. The Tap Free I have is an older metal can and does not look anything like the plastic bottles they show on the website. I will have to go read the label later. I can't remember if it says oil or fluid. The...

How much cutting oil do I really need?

Perhaps I used the wrong term. Not cutting oil, but cutting fluid is what I use. Tap Free to be exact.

How much cutting oil do I really need?

I have been trying to think of an idea for a 'spash shield' of sorts that would fit around the perimeter of the mill to contain the flying bits. Newspaper might just be the ticket! I am not averse to using cutting oil, I just wondered if I used too much, or in other words more than was needed. I...

How much cutting oil do I really need?

Patience-Patience-Patience Guess I need some! :big: Sounds like I was spinning too fast and cutting too deep. I really do like the idea of not creating that mess. I will just have to slow down. Odd, but even at the rate I was cutting it took about four hours to machine that piece on both...

How much cutting oil do I really need?

Hi guys, I was cutting some steel for the first time on my mini mill. Oh, I have trimmed some t-nuts before, but other than that I have only milled aluminum. So anyway, I was cutting cold roll steel, 5/8" thick and I needed to mill down 1/4" of it for 6" long by 1.25" wide. I initially used a...

A cool "Gizmo" I just got

Well, I barely had to apply any pressure for the wheel to spin away and take a recording. How long will it last is a very subjective question. Some guys can make things last a lifetime, some guys break things in a very short time. :big:

A cool "Gizmo" I just got

:) Harbor Freight had a 25% off coupon for today, New Years, only. I went there and found what I think will be a very useful gizmo to have for my lathe. It is a contact tachometer. Nothing new in that. But, this one also has a switch to select "Surface Feet Per Minute". I used it already to...

    What did I do wrong?

Everyone, thanks for your comments. I'm not certain I understand though, what some of you are saying I should have been doing. Here is a pic, and I placed an arrow on it to show the direction the tool was feeding. I understand I was trying to hog out too much at one time. As far as I can tell...
