    Sieg X2 Mill? and lathe?

I have an X2 from Sieg. I also own all the mini mill DVD's produced by Swarfrat ( www.swarfrat.com ) and in those tutorials he routinely proves the X2 is fully capable of .0005" tolerances. Not a bad machine, really. :)

    Cordless drills with cords

I did the same as you. I wired up a Powerpole connector and now I can quickly plug in any number of NiMh packs I have. I also did the same to a small cordless house vacuum cleaner I use for touchup between the main super Hoover corded version. It came with 600 mAh NiCd batteries and it required...

How do you feel about using CNC?

Boy did I blow it this morning when I typed my first reply this morning before I had enough coffee!!! :wall: I meant to say: I have no doubt manually machined parts WERE PERFECT during WWII by machinists who made aircraft engines, for example.

4 "or 6"rotary table for mini mill

Ironhorse: Ditto. Notice the aligning circle is off center on mine? I had to cut some proper concentric circles into the table on mine. Coming from Grizzly, who so many purport as to being the holy grail for buying stuff I was very disappointed in this purchase.

How do you feel about using CNC?

I am curious to know if classrooms teaching young people today to be professional machinists teach them to do manual machining first before they teach them the computer machining technology and programming skills? CNC items are always perfect looking. There is zero doubt in my mind that...

4 "or 6"rotary table for mini mill

I prefer the HF model. They also sell smaller RT's now.

4 "or 6"rotary table for mini mill

In my opinion, a 6" would be much too large for the mini mill. Here are two 4" rotary tables, one from Harbor Freight and one from Grizzly on my mini mill:

Any hobby machinist clubs/classes in the San Fernando Valley?

I live in the San Fernando Valley. I would love to attend a hobby machinist class or join a club so that I could learn "hands on" from others. I am aware of SCHISM , but for various reasons (driving distance and my walking disabilty) it is not a convenient option for me. So, does anyone know if...

Aligning the tailstock on a 9x20 lathe.

Hi Alan, I do not know why the mfg'r did it that way, maybe to save on labor and production costs?

    my new granite surface plate

Wouldn't a granite headstone be sliced by a big circular saw? And wouldn't the saw blade be nice and straight? So the slab of granite should be fairly flat, no? ??? I just purchased my first granite surface plate, 9x12x3, from Grizzly for $21 bucks. ;D

Aligning the tailstock on a 9x20 lathe.

I have an answer now to your question, given to me from a trusted source. Yup. Thing is, since the coax unit is designed basically for centering stock, it doesn't really matter much.

Aligning the tailstock on a 9x20 lathe.

I guess this was the wrong question to ask. :big: Anyway I found out, for anyone that may be interested, that the TIR on this type of measuring instrument is actually 1/2 of what is indicated. So in this case my TIR was .00025 which I will assume is good enough.

Aligning the tailstock on a 9x20 lathe.

Hey guys, I just obtained a coaxial indicator kit. I actually bought it to use with my mill but I saw that I can also use it with a lathe. So I tried it out today on my 9x20. Each tick mark on the gauge represents .0005" offset. I was able to fine tune the tailstock ram to only one tick mark. So...
