    new billd progres

Hi kvr3000, In your second picture down can you explain how the drive dog is attached to the lathe. It looks a neat compact solution. Not something I've tried yet but you have given me some ideas to try out for holding small parts. Thanks Nick

E Z Engine... Perhaps not that easy...

Yep that's very nice Tony. Good luck with your next one. Nick

    #2 or is it #43?

Yep looks very nice. Thanks for posting the link to Bogs's fly cutter grinding info. Nick

E Z Engine... Perhaps not that easy...

It's coming along great Tony. Just a few more bits to go and then you'll have an EZ engine to play with. Mine sits in the workshop and any time I'm using the compressor it gets a run as I empty the tank at the end of the job. Runs for a quite a while on 50ltrs of air! Nick

Re: My second engine - the ez2 (running)

Thanks BV glad you like the mod. I wanted to get some more machining into the build so made the connecting rod by eye from a piece of quarter inch square steel. It looked quite clunky until I waisted the middle. The slot in the end I made on the mill using my smallest cutter. It was a tad too...

Re: My second engine - the ez2 (running)

Sorry I've been away for a while, we've had folks staying in our holiday unit above my workshop so I've not been able to do any work for a while. Thanks for the tips and comments on the tapping, now I know I didn't just break a tap but rather I made myself an opportunity for a new tool. :)...

    #2 or is it #43?

Minerva, interesting thread, your vice build is looking good. Please can you give the link to Bogs's fly cutter grinding article, I wouldn't mind having a read of that too. Thanks Nick

    Scratch-built Stirling

Kevin, you could try putting some ice on the cold end and repeating your test, that would give you a bigger pressure difference which might be enough to overcome the friction or reduce the effect of heat leaking into the frame. Nick

    Scratch-built Stirling

Yep I find that totally amazing too. We have a model engineering show near Bristol each year and it usually has a good turnout from the sterling builders. Some of them go at quite a speed. I find them fascinating to watch. One day (soon I hope) I will have a play with building a sterling, your...

Putting a finish (anodized, powdercoated, blackening) ...my Siamese Twin.

Looking forward to this thread. I know nothing about finishing yet. Nick

    Scratch-built Stirling

Kevin, that's coming together very nicely, you'll soon have another engine done. Dave if you've got any of that liquid sunshine to spare we could do with a drop here in Twyning Gloucestershire, things are starting to get quite dried up and our sheep are getting short of grass. :) Nick

    cheap and very efficent furnace.

Hi Kye just stumbled across your thread, I like the design of your furnace, just wondering how you are you heating it? I see the hole in the middle block, is this for an electric element or do you poke a blow lamp into the hole or have I got it completely wrong? Nick

    strange

Knew a chap once who did that with a lorry. Started OK but it wouldn't stop :) Nick

E Z Engine... Perhaps not that easy...

Looking good, I'd second what Bearcar1 says. Also make sure you are working on the right piece of stock when you make the cylinder part DAMHIK. Nick

Re: My second engine - the ez2 (running)

Thanks Dean, yep I feel it's moving along nicely so far and I am learning and improving. Here are a couple more parts. The axle is cut down from a piece of 6.3mm silver steel stock to fit in a 5.5mm hole. Once again I struggled a bit with the spring whilst making this part. This time I took a...

LFA 400 drill chuck playing up

Thanks Arnold, nice idea. If I can avoid stripping it down so much the better so I'll give this method a try first and see what gives. Nick

Copper pipe couplings combined to maka a boiler - would it work ?

Congratulations Arnold glad things are looking up. Hope you can get your engineering club of the ground too. Nick

Nice looking piece kvom, good see how it was crafted from the blank. Nick

LFA 400 drill chuck playing up

Thanks KRV3000, I've seen that info and I reckon it might be the same for my chuck so will give it a go once I get my current build finished. Nick

    Light my (little) fire.

Nice video, works a treat. Pete & Dean - Thanks for the info on the saw, I can see me adding one of those to the workshop at some point.
