    copper pipe ?

The 5" Type L copper tube has an 1/8" wall thickness. I have been a pipefitter for over 40 years and have fabricated miles of copper waterways. Regards, Giovanni

    copper pipe ?

For that amount of pressure, you can use type L copper tube. Here is a Mueller copper tube chart. Regards, Giovanni

1/5th Scale 1906 Stanley Steam Engine

I'm building a 1/5th scale 1906 Stanley 2-cylinder steam engine. I'm planning to cast some silicon brass steam engine cylinders but want to get some knowledge for casting in some hollow passages for the steam chest valve ports. Anyone have any ideas what material I can use when making the...

    pipe lagging in steam engines

You can use Kevlar string, too. It can even be found with a stainless-steel inner core. Comes in custom colors, as well. Comes in a boot shoestring or a pipe sleeve. You can then use shrink tube over the Kevlar wrap. http://www.cansewspecialops.com/kevlar_thread.aspx...

    Cutting Glass Test Tubes

An old plumber's trick is to soak cotton string in lighter fluid then wrap it around the glass tube on a pre-marked cut line. It will snap easily on the mark after the glass has cooled. This method was used to cut Pyrex laboratory glass drainage tube. Regards, Giovanni

    Lathe Swing-over

I'm on the west coast but the South Bend lathes are mostly on the east coast or midwest! Hope to locate one, hopefully. Thanks, Giovanni

    Lathe Swing-over

Thanks friends! I have been around machine shops all of my life, but never used a lathe. I have used threading machines and have some machine tool experience but I'm no pro. My best friend has a cnc machine shop, but is switching careers soon. I think the Atlas 618 lathe would be a good starter...

    Lathe Swing-over

I am a little confused as to what diameter solid round a metal lathe can turn. Someone told me that a 6" x 12" lathe will turn a 12" solid round, being that the 6" dimension is the radius of the diameter that can be chucked and turned. What will this Atlas 6" lathe handle? Can someone educate...

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

I was planning to use gold/silver solder that will not tarnish. I think the hull was originally welded with some flush riveting. Rivets might be the best method and like you say, can be machined flush after soldering. I'm going to fixture the hull onto a 5-axis laser cutting machine after...

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

My metal spinner told me that he could spin the inner rings. I'm thinking that he could use the same hull mandrels then cut a small section out of the rings to get a slightly smaller diameter. I think that I could use gold silver solder paste on the seams then file them smooth. The original hull...

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

No prototype has been built. My metal spinner does not recommend spinning the lip. It is too difficult to get a precise lip spun in brass. Spinning aluminum is what most people see or very shallow vessals but we are doing sections of around 10" depths. Thanks, Giovanni

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

Spinning a lip on the hull sections would necessitate some complicated multi-piece mandrels. Can I find a low-temp silver solder that is 260 brass colored? Thanks, Giovanni

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

Kermit & Friends, I like the skim-cut edges of the sections best. This would allow me to do my own silver soldering and not use a commercial oven, although a commercial oven would be fool-proof. The tricky part is chucking up the sections on the lathe to get a precise and uniform fit. Thanks...

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

Going a little crazy, here!LOL! :big: Now I understand the tapered ring thing. Maybe I am going down the wrong path? The steel spinning mandrels are very precise for spinning the 260 brass blanks so the hull section butt joints should mate up perfectly. What if I just butt-joint silver solder...

    260 Brass Metal Spinning Project

Jason, I'm not understanding the taper meaning. Maybe I should just use a 12" x 12" x 1/8" 260 brass plate and mill the rings? Regards, Giovanni
