There is a show in Hamilton which is held at the old waterworks pumping station. Well worth a visit to see those Victorian beam engines. I believe it is held in October.

    Bronze Bearing to Shaft Clearances

I struggled with just this sort of thing when I started. The solution for me was to use 303 stainless shafting whenever possible in standard sizes and ream +.001 over when creating the bores. A set of over/under reamers is a great thing to have in your kit.

    CNC or Dro

Putting a DRO on a Mill is a life changing experience. I had one on my SX3 and loved it. I got tired of cranking handles and went looking for power feeds, but decided that I could spend a little more and go CNC. For a while I had both the DROs and CNC, but the DRO is really redundant in that...

    learning cad

I received some drawings from a friend which I could not modify. For some reason as received these files were read only. Try saving the files under another name, then re-opening them.

    learning cad

I don't use autocad, but with many software products a program will read all files created by previous versions of the software but not files created by newer versions. CAD software I use offers the opportunity to save files in formats used by other versions - does Autocad 2006 allow you to...

    Mounted Grinding Stones?

Router? Sounds like you want to turn these at high speed. Be careful - most of the mounted stones I have seen for sale are not safe at router speeds.

    What Mill Tooling is Needed?

On the subject of reamers I would suggest getting an over and under set - I think I paid $99 and I use them all the time. I have a tendency to use 303 ground shafting and I find that I get a beautiful running fit at .001 over using the appropriate reamer.

    Getting started in cnc

The importance of matching the stepper motors to the drivers and power supply deserves emphasis. The torque specification for any Stepper is only achieved when driven appropriately. Going with a vendor that does this matching for you simplifies your conversion. I went the conversion route with...
