Panther Pup Project - 3d Modeled

Thanks for the good words. Yes, the resultant file is very larghe: 4 seconds of video is 220 MB. Youtube does thair magic and compresses it on their end. That said, you can tweak the resolution, compression, frame rate when you tell SW to generate the movie. John

Panther Pup Project - 3d Modeled

Thanks! I must admit I did go a bit overboard with the model with things like spark plug wires, crimp terminals, and the like... Nonetheless, I did find that Mr. Reichert's drawings had numerous missing dimensions and some minor errors I found whilst modeling it. In all fairness, a few of the...

Panther Pup Project - 3d Modeled

My latest endeavor is Bill Reichart's Panther Pup... One posted on this site a month or two ago - all in polished brass - caught my eye and I had to go for it... I bought a set of plans from LMS and got to work... Sort of... As is my modus operandi, I always start converting plans into a 3D...

    A new ignition circuit

Latest schematics and bill of materials. Here's the latest info. Nothing new here, but you'd have to go back through 18 pages of threads to find all these. John

    Farm Boy Progress

Yes. The final engine has all DIY parts except for some hidden hardware, all 2-56 hardware, a small ball bearing as the cam follower, the ignition coil, battery and a cigarette lighter spring used as a governor backlash eliminator. The cylinder and wrist pin drip lubricator you see is included...

    Farm Boy Progress

Thanks Boot! I've actually finished then engine and it has been running for several months now. I have some videos on Youtube of it, the homemade spark plug and the ignition circuit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoI33CuWYsU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQgIcqR0YwU...

    A new ignition circuit

I just got a PM from another member about problems he was having. The A1121 hall sensor is problematic for him too as it was for me. They can be damaged by high voltage VERY easily. The OH090U fixes the problem. They are very robust... The big problem with the OH090U is availability...

    A new ignition circuit

I've already posted this to this photos and videos section, but here it is again since it's running using this circuit. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoI33CuWYsU John

Wiring a Bridgeport Mill - 1 phase to 3 phase

Steve is right... I remember there being a caveat about the 6" staple requirement if the box has clamps where the wires enter the box (which yours does) Nontheless, even if my memory of the caveat is right, the 6" staple rule is so well known and considered such good practice that most...

    Bandsaw Tension Gauge

After posting my last response I started thinking... Being one of those "sounds about right" guys, I started reasoning that one could compute the frequency of the sounds from plucking the blade for a given tension. Turns out someone already did this... http://www.jpthien.com/tg.htm Now...

    Bandsaw Tension Gauge

Very clever! I love simple yet powerful ideas. I tension my blade until it sounds right when I pluck it. Like a musical instrument! Not very scientific of course. Now the obvious question is what is the recommended tension for a blade in psi? Does the table hold true for different size...

    A new ignition circuit

Hi Ron, The output transistor in the hall sensor is partially destroyed (on the internal silicon die, it's made up of several small transistors in parallel - I have a microscope picture somewhere we took during a failure analysis of hall sensors at work after the hall sensor was "de-lidded")...

Light rust on the bed (procedure for removing)

Don't use lapping compound!!!! I've used WD40 and a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with success. If that isn't abrasive enough, you could then step up to steel wool. If that doesn't work, ScotchBrite. The big problem with using lapping compound is making sure you haven't embedded any in the...

    Coleman Fuel ?

Maxx said it all... Coleman fuel is naptha. Naptha is also available from paint stores as a fast evaporating thinner. The nice thing about Coleman fuel is it's easy to ignite and doesn't have excessively noxious exhaust fumes. Alcohol is a good fuel but tends to make an engine a bit hard to...

    A new ignition circuit

The circuit has protection against coil overheating or battery drain if the engine is stopped with the hall sensor triggering the coil. After a very short delay - likely imperceptible - the circuit will "lock-out" and fire the plug. It will seem as if the spark occurred when the magnet is...

Yes - sort of. When you set your timing, bear in mind that the plug fires when the light just turns off. John

    Truing lathe chuck jaws

Thanks for the detailed info Norman! I'm not comprehending what you mean by heave the old jaws and hard face the gripping tips. Maybe if I had access to the article or a synopsis I would understand better. Just to be clear on what I was talking about... After I ran the boring bar through the...
