Great looking model, nice work! I can't wait to see the video of it running so keep trying to upload it. Did you make your own drawings?

    Hercules Running Issues

Hey All, I built Bob Shores' Hercules engine several years ago. I have yet to get it to run for any longer than a minute. Over the years, I have done a handful of changes but have not found the magic one yet. Getting ready for NAMES I decided to spend some time on her last night and found...

    Time

My first engine was Elmer's "Fancy" engine when I was a junior in high school. It honestly was the start of my career in tool & die and the first of several model engineering projects. Start simple! Too often I hear of young modelers wanting to start with building a turbo charged V-8 or...

Excellent work! I made this for the upper and lower tanks when I built the radiator for the Hercules, very handy tool!

    Howell V-Twin

More progress this week. I cut the cylinders this morning, they took three hours each! I made my own parting tool holder for this .094 parting blade. It's really starting to look like an engine now.

    Howell V-Twin

Hi, All! I began construction of Jerry Howell's V-Twin 4-cycle gas engine in late January 2015. I have never posted progress of any of my projects before so there may be a few hiccups. I see that Gus happens to have started building his just before I started. This is by no means a competition or...

    Names 2015

I'll be driving the fam back from Florida during Cabin Fever but I'd love to make it next year. I'll be at NAMES and may go on Friday. Not much to set up but I think it might be nice to meet the other exhibitors without so many spectators around. Getting excited! :)

    Mentor for First Robotics

I used to be a mentor for Team 904 from Grand Rapids, MI. I now work 40minutes away and work a ton more hours so I have not been able to volunteer. I still believe in this program and would encourage anyone to get involved whether a student or mentor. See if there is a team in your area and see...

BOLLAERO based in line twin project

You will likely end up with a very warped crank shaft if you heat treat it.

    Making cast iron piston rings

I make my rings similarly, matching the ID of the cylinder. When I split them I have found a good way to go is to sandwich the ring between two pieces of thin hard board(pegboard material, 3/16" thick) and use a thin slitting saw to open them. I have not shattered any since I've been doing it...

    Model Engine Builder

I did not renew my subscription because I also was not reading the digital version. I was a subscriber almost since it started and still believe it is a great magazine, I just wish I had a nicely printed copy to thumb through but hey, that's progress!
