    Hello there

Thanks Ray for the videos, so great to see them run, ours gave us some grief before we finally got joy. Question how do you post videos? Got a couple of photos of casting patterns almost ready to go. A model train friend gave me a Lifan (Chinese) magnito/charging circuit which is exactly the...

    Hello there

I'm now working on an Onan twin half scale, it is called a Boxer Engine, start with a box, I wonder if that is where the name comes from. It will power a miniature Railway Inspectors Trolley in 7 and a quarter guage

    Hello there

Good day Ray and welcome from down under. Great engines there. My friend Gil and I have been working on this freelance early Hit n Miss, no plans just rough drawings, all our own castings, we bought the piston with rings 39mm bought the gears to run the governor, ignition gave us the most...

    DavidBC

Good one David, I reckon I could have cut one for you if I had the specs, as for pressure angles and suchlike slow turning light loads we don't need to worry too much just so long as the gear meshes OK it will work, even DP to metric will work . There is also a business in Tiari just out of...

Can someone tell me how this works?

This is my Bash valve engine, the valve is a tire valve, it has a large compression chamber, a projection on top of the piston hits the tire valve giving a shot of air which exhausts at the bottom of the stroke through ports, timing adjustment is by screwing in the valve. At low pressure it...

    Crankshaft help

Crankshaft manufacturing is an art, my try was to start with it overlength, centredrill the ends for mains and for the crank journals, set up a 100mm angle grinder in the toolpost, do the crank journals first, run the lathe backwards (if able, forward will work ) very slowly and rough grind as...

    Modified expansion engine?

Solution, watch the line above the keyboard and tap the correct word each time, that will stop its pranks. Ted from down under

    Lathe Moving Dolly

I'm with Will here, I have dropped a lathe and the end result was not pretty, mount it on a plank roll it along on short pieces of pipe, once in place find the balance point and jenga it up,making sure that backup timbers are out further towards the ends.

    vertical hit and miss engine

What happens with a model engine, it gets mounted on a wooden box, then a coil as large as the engine itself is hidden in the box. I know the coil will work without being EARTHED to the engine block but it should be! Battery or power supply NEG to engine block, POS through switch to + pole on...

It needs a governor to do uneven loads

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

Hi Brian, looks great but that won't give you enough power for your job without a governor, simplest way would be to fit an air vane behind the flywheel/fan connected to the throttle with a spring opening the throttle and the vane closing it. A mechanical governor is more reliable but the air...

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

There are a few things that affect idle speed, the weight of the flywheel, (more is better), compression (less is better) valve timing and duration (must be a compromise with the speed requirements) I cut down a six cylinder Toyota motor to single, it would not run at all until I ground the cams...

    Thumper--a 1 3/8" bore i.c. engine

I built a little tractor using a Suzuki 3 cylinder 2 stroke engine, it was useless without a governor, as soon as the mower hit a tuft of grass it would die, with a governor it will mow grass at 10 kilometers per hour. Forty inch cut.
