    CNC options?

Hi Timo, It's good to see I'm not the only member of the Don Quixote Home for Clapped Out Machine Tools From Hell Club around here! I've taken in a few machines that seemed to have promise over the years too... Cheers, Stan

    CNC options?

I sort of missed the mark with rambling on about how I use lasers and not answering your specific need. Sorry about that. My gut is that the laser itself is so trivial from a kinematic and functional usage perspective that unless you just want a laser to do laser stuff don't bother with one...

    CNC options?

Greetings! Thanks for the kind words. I have two lasers and a few older diode heads around here. One is a PRC 40 watt CO2 that isn't even set up since I got a Sculpfun S9 with the bed extenders, which is upgraded to a 10W dual diode head with good air assist. The S9 with lightburn...

    CNC options?

Good morning, You could just run it with gRbl, nothing more to buy. Just download a couple of user control panels and you're all set. I tend to use the openbuilds controller interface with my CBeam router and Blackbox, and the CNCjs interface with the larger router and the CNCPro V5 hardware...

    CNC options?

Hi Folks, As a follow on the the gRbl part of this thread, I just got notice that OpenBuilds has releases a BlackBox controller version built around the ESP32 WROOM32D chipset. Probably as a response to the Sparkfun CNCPro V5. So there are two close to turnkey controller driver gRbl options...

    CNC options?

Looks like my comment about tube ends not being deburred being a wee bit bothersome was overly positive doesn't it? I was wondering about the rail mounting surfaces, but from the videos it appeared that all was well. Promising design, but it seems there are quite a few folks with a poor...

    CNC options?

That's an interesting kit. Maybe a bit pricey, but maybe not depending on component quality. I like the lubrication system being built in, the only change I might make would be to replace the pump oiler sort of deal with a one shot oiler so you don't have to peek at all the lines to see oil...

    CNC options?

Good morning, While I understand your desire to make a good choice, your approach may lead you into some inconsistent places. You have three router style machines in the mix, at least two of which are gRbl based controllers. The genmitsu is the cheapest make believe play with thin plywood...

    CNC options?

The Carbide Nomad is rated as a 70W spindle, which is under 1/10 HP. It is basically a fairly beefy well built VERY small router in a box. Carbide makes good stuff, but the combination of only a 3" Z height and the very low power would make me give it a pass for model engineering. It would...

    3D cad design sequence

Not sure how we got onto DST/STD time here, but standard time? There are 24+ of them around the globe... Not to mention sunrise and sunset move 4 minutes for each 100 miles. Only reason I like DST is that I'm more of an evening / night guy, so like having the light "later". Silly I guess as...

8 inch floppies rule! Hard sector too, none of that new fangled stuff from people who don't appreciate AO horn rimmed glasses and a good pocket protector! Got to boot that 360 or VAX from something when you IPL! I remember Generic Cadd too, kept me using vellum and t squares for a few more...

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

Hi Folks, This is one heck of a build, and I'm really interested in seeing the mix of conventional, cnc, casting, and 3d printing all in one thread. Interesting and exciting times to have such a variety of techniques within our reach! Sorry to back track a bit, but the two products mentioned...

Older Sherline 4000 for Beginners First Lathe

Hi Folks, I had a short bed Sherline lathe and found the combination of not being able to slide the tail stock off the end of the bed and the extra steps needed to remove the tail stock a real irritation. Because of the work I was doing at the time, clock and watch restoration, a flex shaft...

    CNC options?

Greetings, While Vectric products tend to be router-centric, they do have a very good but somewhat dated intro sort of document that isn't vapid or stupidly simplistic. https://storage.googleapis.com/vectric_public/Intro-To-CNC-Vectric2013.pdf For 2.5D work, I used Vectric VCarve for much...

SIEG KX-1 KX-2 parallel interface board repair/replacement suggestions

That looks like a very typical optically isolated parallel break out board. Unfortunately LMS doesn't have docs for the board showing. You'll have to go back into the machine or the documentation with the machine to double check there aren't any weird functions, and what kind of spindle...

    Making a model Cannon

IN THE US, OTHER COUNTRIES VARY: Typically black powder cannon that are muzzle loaded are not considered destructive devices. The things that get you a bit of freedom is having it be a "replica", and not being capable of firing fixed ammunition. The bigger issue is the possession of black...

    Milling Vise Recommendations

I've been very pleased with the four inch vise from Glacern Machine Tools. It seems a good compromise between cost and quality, more than good enough for my requirements and smooth in operation. Cheers, Stan

    Black Hills Show 2022

Yeah, I know. Little failure of the finger math there, combined with a nice Rye on ice. Three weeks is a bit closer to the mark :-)
