A tiny diesel design of .020 c.i. capacity the Wee Dee

Thanks Cosgsy, will use that if the 609 fails. Machined the inside of the case this morning, not without some trepidation, you have 8+ hours work hanging by not much in the chuck and doing an interrupted cut - sure was glad when it all came out ok. Next job was to make the crankshaft, never...

A tiny diesel design of .020 c.i. capacity the Wee Dee

Have finished making the 2 halves to the crankcase. Now starting to doubt this is going to work, but buoyed by a mate who has used Loctite in automotive situations with great success, like I said before nothing ventured nothing gained. About 8 hours work to get to here. One thing I would do...

A tiny diesel design of .020 c.i. capacity the Wee Dee

Fantastic news - Steve Jenkinson said he would do the CAD plans for the engine, Steve's work on the Holly Buddy was terrific, in my opinion a lot easier to follow than some other plans I have worked from. Here are the next 2 phases of design. These drawings are 1mm per .01" or 100mm per inch...

A tiny diesel design of .020 c.i. capacity the Wee Dee

Elsewhere on Work in Progress is the design and build of the Holly Buddy. This was a 2.5cc diesel that was relatively easy to build and the thread took readers from the design to the final article running. That was started about a year ago and in recent times I have had a hankering to make a...

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

Thanks Bollaero - I will start another thread as I have started on the initial design phase. Yes fits will be very important and never considered friction - an easy build will minimize friction errors so will try to achieve that. Like your suggestion of Teeny D - but might stick with Wee Dee ...

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

I have always been of the opinion that most home machined engines like the Holly Buddy do look a bit squared edged which detracts a bit from their aesthetics and in fact I designed the HB this way and encouraged those making one to customize their engines by softening this aspect of them. Just...

The Holly Buddy 2,5 cc model diesel engine

Hi Gerard, Congratulations on finishing the Holly Buddy - it looks wonderful. And thanks for choosing to build it. Can't wait for you to get your fuel and hear it running. I note you have an 8 x 4 prop on it - maybe think about a 9 x 4 to start with, although an 8 x 4 will be ok if you don't...

Hi Nautilus29, Great work on the case, will be watching your thread with much interest ... Ed

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

Hi Steve, You have made a wonderful job of building the engine - it looks superb in the photos and in the way it runs in the video you posted. Congratulations, you should be very proud of your efforts. Kind regards ... Ed

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

Steve, Here is the PAW NVA. Length of threaded section 12.5mm ; overall length this component 27mm ; diam where holes are 3.55mm ; inlet holes (2) are 3.9mm from fixed end and staggered maybe .5mm ie one is 3.6 and the other 4.1 from fixed end and the 2 holes are not diametrically opposed...

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

I would like to acknowledge the award by HMEM of build of the month for the Holly Buddy. There are a great many other engines that I think are just as deserving as this one, so I feel very honoured to have it awarded to a fairly simple design and relatively easy build. I last ran this engine a...

The Holly Buddy 2,5 cc model diesel engine

Modelmotor, Seems spring has arrived about a week or two too early - just a few components to go and it will be ready for a test run ! Congratulations so far on lovely workmanship. Enjoy the warmer weather whilst we start to get a bit chillier down here in Australia. Sydney is not too bad...

New 2.5cc model diesel design and build.

Hi Pat, yes make my own fuel, just 1/3 each kerosene, ether and caster oil. Re making the engine, it is quite an easy engine to build and gives good power. If I ever make another I would round off the crankcase to within a millemetre of the bolts above the crankshaft tunnel just to make it...

How to join 2 cylinders at 90 degrees

Brian, I can't give up that easily ! Any consensus on whether this would be a safe option .... Using 4 pins each 0.75mm thick pushed into 4 drilled holes as per photo. The 4 holes are equal spaced front and back to evenly take up the upward loads mentioned above. And there is about 1mm meat...

How to join 2 cylinders at 90 degrees

I would like to join a cylinder at 90 degree to another to form a crankcase. Am struggling with how this might be achieved without welding. Have made a mock-up but still can't see a way without resorting to something like loctite. Is there a loctite product that might do the work ? It is a...

Boll Aero - my first engine build

Roboguy, Don't discard the piston yet - if you are convinced it is too small there is a way of redeeming it called cherry bombing. BUT if you are getting popping then it wants to run, maybe the John Deere extra ether if you can get it will help - if you don't have enough ether you won't get...

Boll Aero - my first engine build

Roboguy, Don't give up - I am sure I heard a few pops when you were flicking... if that was the case then you should be able to get it to run. The first start of a new motor is always the most difficult, settings unknown and piston / contra / cylinder fit unhappy as no running to bed it in...

New 2.5 cc Model Diesel design and build.

Thanks John for consolidating the pages. Gave the "Holly Buddy" another run this afternoon and the getting better with each run scenerio seems to be true, this was the best I've seen so far, 9660. Maybe 10000 with this prop is not outside the realms of possiblity, my Owen Mate Mk2 gave 9500...
