    Vertical side shaft engine

Your engine very similar to the Oriental Gas Engine pictured in Jack Alexander's book The Regan Vapor Engine (The Beginning of California's Gas Engine History) Page 134. The advertisement is from 1891, if your engine is indeed an Oriental it is rare and valuable. You are in CA which makes it...

    Vertical side shaft engine

Yes it does have some similarities to the Pacific engine especially the valve chests. My guess is the lunk. mixer is also an add on and it would have had a vapor carburetor on it. With the valve chests and piston tip ignitor I would think that is quite early (late 1800s) and probably rare. Have...

    Harvard/Stickney Jr Model

I see, yes I had forgot that it goes where the hot tube would have been. Dave

    Harvard/Stickney Jr Model

Spark Plug? Why not use the ignitor that is part of the engine? Dave

    Harvard/Stickney Jr Model

Hi John The coil is functional, I think this is the second one that he made. The first one was smaller but got too hot if I remember correctly. Dave

    Harvard/Stickney Jr Model

My buddy built one a few year back from a set of castings that I had and he talked me out of. It runs real nice on the ignitor. Dave

    Fairbanks Morse R80

Hi Bruce My head castings are not cored, so not much different that working from solid as you are. I think the intent was to mill a circular passage at two depths to miss the ports. I have been playing around with it in my CAD program to get a better idea of the construction. The water jacket...

    Fairbanks Morse R80

I have a set of castings for this engine (not for sale) would it help if I took some photos of the cylinder head casting for you? Dave

    Hello from Nevada

Welcome, it is most likely an Elmer Wall design. I is it a single or multi cylinder? Dave

Does anyone recognise this as an engine?

Starrett hasher or food chopper, if you google it you will find lots of pictures. Dave

Essex hot air engine from MyfordBoy's castings

I guess what I was trying to say is your print said 1.600 which was too long, and my print says 1.120 so I'm assuming that I have updated drawings? Dave

Essex hot air engine from MyfordBoy's castings

Hi Dave You are making good progress, I have been following along but have neglected to comment, sorry about that. Everything looks great! I did check my prints and the length of the wrist pin is correct. Dave

Essex hot air engine from MyfordBoy's castings

Hi Dave Good to see this build, I too have a set of these very nice castings ageing under the bench. Looking forward to seeing your progress on this one. I built a full sized Essex hot air fan replica from Myers castings a number of years ago. Someday I hope to have the Essex engine completed...

    Band Saw Resoration

I cleaned up the table with some Scotch-Brite on an orbital sander. My shop is heated and we don't have very much humidity in Boise, I just wipe it with an oily rag and it stays in pretty good shape. As you can see I copied the vise design from the one on my Ellis saw. I picked up the Heinrich...

    Band Saw Resoration

Nice restoration, I'm pretty sure that you will enjoy your Roll-In saw. I purchased mine some years ago that was used in a mold shop and spent most of it's life cutting up EDM electrode stock. You couldn't get close to it with out turning black. When I had it stripped down to the frame and saw...
