What Is Your Reason For Hating Snow?

I don't mind snow. It happens so seldom here that it is always a novelty. In fact we just had our first white Christmas since 1963. Last time it happened, I was 8 years old and had gotten my first bicycle for Christmas. With several inches of hard frozen sleet on the ground, I didn't get to try...

    Cabin Fever 2011

1Hand... Still using mine with great success. It's just easier to use and the accuracy has proven to be spot on. Steve

Kvom... I'd love to go, but I'm going to have to be here this year. Thanks for the offer. Steve

I think I'll be sitting this year out at home, but I hope everyone has fun. Steve

TB3 - Can it be resurected?

I'm not particularly interested in getting into a team build, myself but I'll add a thought to the mix. I've built an IC engine and hang out with several guys who have built many of them. What I've learned from the experience is that an IC engine is not for the faint of heart and can be a real...

TB3 - Can it be resurected?

Pat.... You're perception is correct. Each participant builds a number of a specific part and ships them to one member who acts as a distribution point for all the others on the project. Sadly, life, machine failures, procrastination or one or more participants getting overwhelmed tends to bring...

    Brass or Cast iron

Jason... great minds...eh? Sounds like brass residue here too, especially if he's got direct metal to metal contact. Steve

    Brass or Cast iron

J... Not a total loss. You took away some knowledge you didn't have before. You aren't dealing with any extreme temps with an engine this small, so there might be another option. I'm running a cast cylinder with an aluminum piston in my Duclos Victorian IC engine and have no problems at all. He...

    Brass or Cast iron

LOL.... Finger. It can all be a bit overwhelming and the problem of tunnel vision strikes us all at times. Don't sweat it... it'll come to you if you just keep plugging. I can promise you there are plenty of mistakes in every one of our pasts. Some were larger and more serious or dangerous than...

    Brass or Cast iron

The nice thing about the forum world is that you can get lots of good information freely for the asking. The terrible thing about the forum world is that you can get lots of good information freely for the asking. That free information is only as helpful as the user allows it to be. Therein lies...

    The arrogance of some people

Ok boys and girls..... time to back off and take a deep breath. Personalities are getting in the way of home shop machining. I don't want to have to lock the thread but It only takes one click of the mouse. Settle it on PM or drop it. Steve

    The arrogance of some people

The new guy is sacrosanct on this board. Bruise one at your own peril. Just ask those who've earned permanent bans for doing so. You'll find them quite easily on one of the other hobby machinist boards. They're the ones who are vehemently anti-HMEM, because we would'nt let them abuse the less...

    Cast Iron

I can vouch for the low quality of sash weights from the US. I just junked about 150 pounds of them due to air pockets, extreme hard spots and generally bad grain. Apparently they were made from cleared slag or the cold dregs from other pours. Carbide would hardly touch some of the hard spots...

    The arrogance of some people

George.... I don't need any name to know the forum of which you speak. Your experience is exactly how I came to almost exclusively haunt these hallowed halls. I still have a bad taste from the place, as well as another well known hobby machinist site that quickly proved to be less than new user...

    Rust vs tea, Round 1

HM... Just goes to show how deep our memberrs will dig to mine the nuggets this place has produced. Thar's gold in them thar hills. Speaking of Kludge...I still miss his off the wall antics. Anyone ever hear anything more from or about him? I know he was struggling with some very large demons...

    Danced a jig

Mike the victory can only be all the sweeter when you consider the uphill battle you've waged from a cold start. I've watched your progress with a keen eye and you never wavered.... even against some pretty large odds. I'm impressed with the results and proud of you for displaying such...

    A diversion.

Jerry... good to know I'm not the only one who gets project burn out. The current VW project was my way to escape from the shop, for a bit and it's filled the time void nicely until I'm ready to attack the small stuff again. Taking a break from a complex project is a good idea, now and again. Steve

Not exactly model engineering.... but I've been busy

Thanks guys. I just got the dual carbs running right this morning, but it's rained all day so I've only got to rev it up while sitting still. As you can imagine, I'm antsy to give it a spin to see how they do under road conditions. They should be a real nice addition. O H CAM... It's been a...
