    Setting up my mill

Mr Corlay, You have been registered for a grand total of 7 minutes and your first post is to pick a fight with Bogs? I suggest you learn some manners, sir.

    Scratch-built Stirling

Hi rleete, Thanks for the interest ;D It'll come back, I just haven't had time to hit the shop lately. About the time I stopped to wait out the heat I started a big project at work that should wrap up in a couple weeks. Then back in September I was given responsibility for 60+ Linux computers...

Not exactly model engineering.... but I've been busy

That buggy looks in great shape, Steve. Me thinks it needs a new motivator, though. For some reason a 30% scale Liberty V12 comes to mind... ::)

OZ - US exchange rate, I'm excited!

Just to put some numbers on my experience shipping to OZ. I don't know what the exact postal rate is, but I sent a 4 pound package to Sidney a couple years ago and postage was $45 USD, or about 30% the value of the goods, private residence to private residence, no insurance. I think it spent...

Doc, Good to see you back in the shop. If I waited for the honey-do list to be completed I'd never get anything done ::) Seems when I finish one thing, she adds two more :-\

firefox is red flaging this site

Yes, we did get hacked a couple weeks ago. There were at least two, possibly three, sources for the hack. All simultaneously. No malware was downloaded to members from this site, however, one of the hacks had a redirect that did attempt to download some kind of script. All these hacks have...

firefox is red flaging this site

Sorry to take so long, guys. I'm on the road. Found some hacker code and removed it. It wasn't the same guy as last week. I'll know more when I get back home to analyze the logs. We seem to be attracting some attention... I'll be looking at ways to lock down the site a little more. Hopefully...

Forum acting strange, or it's me.

Well, he seems to have grown tired of playing with me. There has been no activity from him for about an hour or so. It was fun watching him squirm around trying to get around me. Automation is a wonderful thing. Lets just hope he stays gone. Now I gotta find the hole he crawled in from...

Forum acting strange, or it's me.

As you've all surmised already, we've been hacked (again). I found some of it this morning and removed it, but the site was acting fine. Now I just got home to find this behaviour. I'm working on it. Dean, thanks for catching that file name. That will help find the little so-and-so.

So, Trout, just how big is your sandbox?

    Boo Hoo

That's a mighty big Tonka Toy there, Mr. Squeezer  You should get with Charlie Daniels and A. J. Foyt, I understand they both like to play with dozers in the dirt to help blow off steam.

    Asta Lavista Baby

Marv, No need to apologize, I'm more than willing to help where I can. I have to admit I'm not very knowledgeable about Windoze. I swear at it daily, and use it because I have to, but I know very little about it. My preferred OS is Unix with VAX/VMS a close second. That being said, there are...

    Asta Lavista Baby

Bob, (And anyone else who owns a confuser...) Buy an extra hard drive the same size, make and model as already in the computer. Windoze allows you to create a mirror drive, an exact copy of your primary drive (in fact the computer will use both in tandem allowing for faster access). This is...

    Meeting a fellow HMEM member

kvom, I'm jealous. Turkey is one of those places on my list I want to see before I die, very near the top. Man, lots of history there. Glad you had a good time. Hope you had plenty of opportunity for sight-seeing. Erdem, thanks for taking care of one of our own.

Stew, Looks like a fun time was had by all. Thanks for sharing. Must have been a grand display.

    Tact?

Well, I've found that sometimes the easiest way to deal with someone set on doing a dangerous project is talk them through it as if the project has merit. Point out the details and problems that you see, ask him how they will be solved, not that you see issues that will derail the project...

How do you guys clean your lathe?

DVP, I picked up a few cheap short-bristled paint brushes from Lowe's/Home Despot. I pull out what I can by shop vac (or hand if necessary) using the brush to get into the tight places. Clean up with WD-40 and a brush to loosen dirt. Wipe up with a paper towel. Lube with synthetic transmission...

    What's a self-adjusting double-driving centre chuck?

Sounds like a face plate with two driving bolts in it instead of one. You'd use a two-armed dog to drive the work. Just guessin' ::)
