    Lathe & Mill on wheels

I have my lathe and mill mounted on top of a toolbox on wheels and have not had any issues. I would make sure to use locking casters on at least two of the wheels.

    Milling machine oppinion

I bought the HF mill about 4 months ago and have been happy with it (although it is the only mill I have owned or used so I can't compare it with others). I believe the HF and Grizzly mills are the same, the only difference being Grizzly's better support. This wasn't a big concern with me as...

First Model Engine Completed - Elmer Number 25

Well done on your first engine. I like what you did with the flywheel. Elmer's wobbler was also my first engine (which I believe is where you got the idea for the base), and I too found it the perfect engine for a beginner. Do you have any plans on what you are going to make next?

    Elmer's Grasshopper

Here is a small update on my grasshopper. I got the crankshaft, beam, and leg done. They have not been cleaned up yet so they are a little rough.

    Elmer's Wobbler #25

JLR, This top down full assembly view should make it clearer. The red line is the 7/32" counterbore for the spring. The green line is the air/steam inlet. They should be on opposite sides of the frame. On your CAD model they are on the same side. I hope this clears it up. Randy

    Elmer's Grasshopper

Here is the start of Elmer's grasshopper I am building. This is my third engine after successfully making Elmer's Wobbler and Standby. After making those two which are quite similar, I wanted to do something that was quite different and I like the way the grasshopper looks when running so I...

    Elmer's Wobbler #25

JLR, It looks as though the counter-drilled? hole for the spring is on the wrong side of the frame. I made the same mistake when making mine. Luckily I noticed before drilling the air/steam inlet hole so I drilled it on the other side which is why my wobbler is a mirror of Elmer's design. If...

    First engines

Thanks for the compliments. It seems as though each piece I make comes out a little nicer than the previous piece will less effort required. I guess that means I am learning something. Randy

    Hello from Wisconsin

Gus, it has been rather warm the last couple days. Today's high temp was about 38 deg. F which is above average for this time of year. We have about 6" of snow on the ground. It gets down to 10 below zero or worse here in winter which is no fun, definitely not looking forward to that. Randy

    First engines

Here are the first two engines I have completed. They are Elmer's Wobbler and Standby. I am pretty happy with how they turned out and they both run pretty well. Randy

    Hello from Wisconsin

After lurking for a while I thought I should join and introduce myself. I bought a x2 mill and 7x12 lathe this summer and have been learning as I go. As a beginner I have found this forum extremely informative yet intimidating considering the quality and complexity of many of the members work...
