    Easy Question on Collet Rings

The ring nuts do the same thing as the locking lever, only slower, and with the aid of a ring spanner. With the ring nut, you can flip the part in a vise without the lever getting in the way. I almost never use the lever lock, myself. ;D

Why is NBC's Olympic coverage so bad?

The Winter Olympics is one of a handful of things I turn my TV on for. I used to LIVE to ski. Congrats to Canada and their hockey team. Great game, guys.

Anyone use one of these small chuck?

I don't know about that chuck, but I've bought vises from that seller. They were every bit as good as the ad claimed, square, flat, or parallel within .0002" everywhere... packaged well and shipped quickly.

t nuts ! or that thing that goes in a milling machine slot in the table

When you're cutting the slot with an endmill, going a little deeper than the slot cutter will be will; 1. give the t-slots some chip clearance, so every little crumb that falls in the slots doesn't stop you from sliding a nut through. 2. make the job easier for the keycutter you're following...

Ask or read around on the CNCzone forums, and you'll see some more opinions and advice...especially in the "Benchtop Machines" sub-forum; http://www.cnczone.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=164 There are also sub-forums for specific drivers, which are great places to read about the problems and...

    CNC Sherline Lathe Project

Thanks! It's wired and cutting air, but all of my electronics are scattered all over the desk at the moment, so I'm not about to throw metal chips! :D I also need to make a slotted wheel for the spindle index, and get it onto a real stand...but I plan to be cutting parts for my Crackers by this...

    Ideas

Go with Gecko! There's nothing better. Back when I refit my mill there were no Gecko drives, and I went with the old 24volt Xylotex system. I've since helped my dad build a CNC router, wnd powered it with a Gecko G540, and I'm using two G251s to drive my new lathe, with a LOT more power and...

    Dovetail Cutters

Ha, really. I think I read that the original gauges and first lathes were off, and they just kept making them that way in the interest of backward compatibility... or something. That'd be a tough call; render older machines obsolete, or use custom-ground dovetail cutters forever after. :D
