3d printed box for gear cutters

Ron I am in Canada and could print this for you. Lots of 3 D printers on this forum.

    Stephenson's Rocket--Working Model

Neat boiler. How did you make the bowel shaped end piece? Hydro forming? Is it really all screwed together or is it silver soldered with fake screw heads?

    Close up work glasses

I wear corrective lenses and always wear safety glasses over my regular glasses. I doubt these magnifiers would fit as a third layer. Someone should come up with magnified and illuminated safety glasses.

Yikes that is pretty thin. You might have to stick with a regular bronze and an oiler.

    How tight??

To me the tang on the Morse taper arbor is there to prevent it from spinning and ruining the taper In the tailstock. Its not supposed to drive anything, just give you a chance to stop the lathe when you see the drill chuck arbor move.

    How tight??

The tailstock in my new lathe did not have a crossbar in it to engage the tang on the end of the drill chuck taper. I had continuous problems getting the drill chuck seated so I took the tail stock to a machine shop and we installed an offset pin in it. Kept the drill chuck from spinning. I am...

    Hello from Fargo

Sadly the Thresherman’s Reunion has been cancelled here and I will miss it. Really enjoyed the show. The museum gets their traction engines and early gas tractors going. I especially like all the little on farm steam setups from two turn of the centuries ago. And the hit and miss tent. Their...

Drilling and tapping carriage for rear tool post

Struggling a bit with the U shape. If the front face is flat, where is the U? Along the top edge? Seems that it would have two sharp points at the apex of each arm of the U. That would suggest digging in to the work. Sorry to be thick on this but I have never seen or heard of that shape.

Brian what is your gland nut design? Are you using packing or just a sliding fit?

I have seen that U shape in parting tools but how on Earth would you sharpen it?

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

How about this 000-120 micro thread roller?

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

Do you use tap magic or some other lube? Titanium sounds like a tough metal to tap even at larger sizes.

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

Oops, my page didn’t update before I hit send. I was referring to the post about the dies from Micro Fasteners. They are a great outfit for small stuff, I have several of their cap bolt collections. The tap and die set from Chronos looks great too. That is very tempting. But those teeny taps...

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

Good find. Thanks. They have 00,0 and 1 sized taps. I will get all 3 and see what works with my collection of music wire. These wires are by no means precision made and vary in diameter quite a bit. I guess despite all the exactness of 3a versus 2a fits and the tolerances in the tables it boils...

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

Thinking about this again I am coming at it from the other direction. Rather than consulting a chart for the numerous variations on one particular size, I would like to know what my die in hand is designed for. It would seem that a die would dictate the size of blank it is designed to use...

Drilling and tapping carriage for rear tool post

So the forces on the tool would be trying to lift the tool up in a reversed parting tool. In the front it would be pushed down. I would think that the upside down position would be less rigid since the whole tool post is being lifted from its mount. In the front it is being forced down.

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

My steely determination is rusting a bit. I found micro-miniature dies at Newmans. The 00-90 is $463.88. Probably that again for a holder for those tiny little things. Maybe I will just buy a bunch more factory push rods. I don't think the lathe threading tables go down quite that far.

Drilling and tapping carriage for rear tool post

I have never understood the advantage of a rear toolpost for parting. Do you use the parting tool upside down, or run the lathe in reverse?

What are the material sizes to use with small dies?

One of my many head scratching issues involves the pushrods for my model RC airplanes. These are the wires that move the control surfaces. For little miniature indoor flyers .032 music wire is standard. The next step up is .047 wire for larger models. Even larger is .072, which is fairly heavy...

    Stephenson's Rocket--Working Model

Sooooo, I now have an excuse to approach the financial officer with a proposal that I will cut down on the corn fries and energy drinks if I can buy the rotary table set I have been drooling over in the KBC catalog. I’ll just say its all Brian’s fault.
