    Gear cutting on mini mill

Maybe you give the small one a try. Curious what comes out of it. A regular 10 tooth gear will only be 12 mm outside diameter and 7.5 mm root diameter, so a geared shaft will be easier to make. Another option is to go down with the module to the next smaller size, increasing tooth count and...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

Admission: I am too scared to post foto of chaos. Realization: I do no know what "bickering" means, but I can spell "procrastination". Let*s go! (ordered some expensive tool cabinets last week, they will solve all issues ..... )

Is this rod appropriate for piston rings & cylinder liners?

Most probably not Iron. The hex is formed (I assume cold formed) into the end. (I would guess even ductile Iron would crack and give up). I would try to cut a small ring off with the lathe (crumbly chips - iron; curly chip -steel ). Then bend it, if it breaks (iron) ... bending (steel).

What is your purpose in getting into the hobby of building model engines?

I made a steam engine to have some practice piece on the metal lathe. I was always curious about metal lathe work and never had the chance to use one more than one hour. Having interest and a lathe (paid by employer) I searched for a start. And now I made a very few engines, mainly as alibi to...

What is your purpose in getting into the hobby of building model engines?

(off topic) I would have given this a thumbs up, but I do not want to. Because that would have maybe ment I disagree with @peterl95124 :). Is he totally wrong? I do not disagree and I do not agree. (still trying to overthink it and I probalby will not go back and read all the longish comments)...

    Gear cutting on mini mill

I am confused. I thought the undercut will be there, but it is not really. The tooth gaps are still opening. (pressure angle 20° Modul1 and 10 teeth). Is the undercut only a repeated myth? Or is there something wrong with the CAD software (found several mistakes in gear macros, so I would not...

What have you been doing today?

Took day off from work today. Went to Taipeh to the Machine tool exhibition. "Expanding my whish list!" Found some companies that make grinding discs in hobby workshop quantities of one. Supplier for carbide blanks close to my home, is willing to sell to hobby guy. Besided free...

    Ring gear for Edwards radial.

What?!? :oops:o_O That is a creative aproach. I made a slotting head a while ago. It would be useless most people said, I start to see why . But it can do ring gears as well. One trap I ran into was that the ring gear needs a bigger inside diameter and same cutting depth, because addendum...

    I need suggestions. Lathe

I would go for a dial indicator holder and a Micrometerscrew for a stop. On the tool grinder works gerat and is cheap. Then you can try if adjusting with the hand wheel and rack pinion is really that difficult. (using above suggestions) I have a DRO on the Lathe and fine adjustment is a matter...

    My latest 2 engine builds

So running all the time? But no "photo of it running?" I always want to do a "before" after photo for parts I make. Usually forget to take photo of raw stock, and forget to make photos of the finished items, before I give them away. Soda can? Bummer: Not seeing the forest, too many trees...

    My latest 2 engine builds

I was also getting stuck with the linkage too, starting to play with the computer program. It is fascinating. I think (guess) it does not make a vertical line. But there will be a range of motion (cylinder stroke) were the deviation is neclectable small. I would be interested in the dimesions...

    My latest 2 engine builds

I like the tiny oilers on the Elmers engine. And you made a cylinder cladding. (how did you do the cylinder cladding. ( I should consider upgrading )

    rotary table programming

The modification I posted in the previous thread keeps track of the error and as soon as one full extra step fits in, it will do one more step. So it is limping its way around. A little too less, little too less, little too much etc. At the end it ends up spot on. Awake gave the necessary...

Looking for hex wrenches with hardened ends

I rather buy a tool were someone was thinking about the handle. Than one were no one was thinking at all. I would not mind some tools with wood handles. I bought some 2nd hand hex screw drivers with wood handles and they have no issue with oil! We had some "automotive tools" (Gedore) were the...

Looking for hex wrenches with hardened ends

The Wera tools are really decent quality. ( good tool and imperial sized tool isn*t that mutually exclusive? :) ) My work colleague from Germany complained about the "mulicolor Wera hexes" (round profile rubber like sleeve) He had problems with the handles sliding. (I was advised to get...

    rotary table programming

The choice of the table ratio (in my opinion is the least problem), unless you use the controller with different rotary tables. Plus we have so many stepper drivers that can do much higher microstepping resolutions than half, quarter or 8th steps. The problem that the system is under certain...

    rotary table programming

You might want to have a look around here too https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/help-with-arduino-idexer.35108/, because the code that is posted above has the rounding error described in the other thread! :) the version i am now using is not "cleaned up" and reversing the...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

This seems to be a little off topic, maybe we should start a thread "how do i make my messy shop visible". Totally agree to the "plan B" side. Luckily I found some replacement parts to fix the lamps, they do not cost too much. Soldering new SMD LEDs in was tedious and "hit and miss", my method...

HELP, my shop is a MESS

I am still (not) trying to get the floor clean(ish), and people are nasty, so no photos off my shop :) My LED lamps die all the time. I bought cheap 50 W lights that were supposed to work forever. They do not! Someone posted last year that the leds do not fail, but the drivers. That is both...

Need advice and help : A remote display caliper

The main point seems to be that the glas scales are the better solution, if they fit on the machine (bulky). They are not terribly expensive and can be purchased without the Display Unit.
