    Silver Solder Torch Selection

I have only used the one with a hose for soft soldering (plumbing) and heat treating relatively small tools. I usually use the Orca for Silver Brazing, but again relatively small parts.

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Oh, I forgot: regardless of which torch you choose, get one of these (fits both 16oz “camping” and 14oz “torch” cylinders): https://a.co/d/do1f3yc

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

Like many things I have I didn’t spend current prices (and was usually able to take advantage of “first order” discounts & free shipping. While I usually use the Orca as it seems to have a more stable, hotter pinpoint flame, I also have one of these: https://a.co/d/b1yNGtQ This might work...

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

That’s OK: having worked with & for companies in England, Wales & Scotland I am used to those in the UK using different terminology in a lot of cases. ;)

    Silver Solder Torch Selection

When I refer to "Silver Solder" I mean Jeweler's Silver Solder, which is 65% – 75% Silver: that has a higher melting point than the Silver Brazing alloys due to the higher Silver content; also costs significantly more. Silver-Bearing Solders are those with 3 – 5% Silver, added to soft solders...

    Big Kant Twist clamp

Nice job! The largest I have are 4-1/2”, and I seldom need them; however, a larger pair could come in handy when I’m using my 2-4-6 blocks. I did see a pair of (I think) 12” a few years ago at a welding shop: they used hard.

    Help with gears

Now that I better understand the size of the gear I would suggest using a Flexi-Chuck:

    Help with gears

Clamp to faceplate or clamp to a rectangular fixture plate and hold the fixture plate in the 4-Jaw (makes it easier to dial in the bore. Use spacers between the gear & faceplate/fixture plate.

    Annealing gray iron castings

Sling until after recovery & PT, and the replacement surgery isn’t until December so it will be a while. However, I’ll add this to my to-do list.

    Annealing gray iron castings

And I have to admit that my experience is based on reading (Guy Lautard IIRC, and maybe old issues of Model Engineering) EDIT: If you can wait until Spring when I will be able to drive again I could pay my Amish acquaintances that run a small foundry what they think.

    Annealing gray iron castings

Not the place but if we ever are in the same vicinity we can spend an evening over beer discussing my experience with government and business making short term monetary decisions that cost lives in the long run.

    Annealing gray iron castings

Exigent circumstances change a lot of things (but caution is also needed: Apollo 1 happened because of a deadline making people downplay safety).

    Annealing gray iron castings

Faster and cost-effective doesn’t necessarily mean better.

    Annealing gray iron castings

I wasn’t aware of annealing Cast Iron castings, but I have heard that they should be aged (preferably by storing them outside so they get thermal cycling).

    What's Happening in Chazz's Shop?

Out of the Shop Until Early Next Year Managed to mangle my left shoulder last week (not in the Shop: had disagreement with the stairs leading down to the Office & Shop) and while feeling a lot better the news from the Orthopedic doctor is not good - given the choice of a plate & screws and a...

    What's Happening in Chazz's Shop?

Replacement Kant-Twist Clamp Zoro processed the replacement the morning after FedEx had the return and the new one arrived this afternoon (extended delivery item as it was coming from a 3rd party): This one works properly and has decent welds on the plates/jaws, but they didn't spend much...

Fed up with a flimsy bench grinder tool rest.

They also make them in UNC sizes, and while not cheap the unit cost goes down significantly with higher quantities (also going to the source in China vis eBay is far less expensive than buying name brand in the U.S., and are excellent quality).
