Gingery metal shaper in cast iron?

This was listed in the used machinist tools group on Facebook. I have no connection to the seller but thought it might be of interest John W

    Motorcycle model

The V-Twin is a beautiful bike, but I’m mostly marveling over the castings on both the twin and the 4 cylinder! Exquisite work and I absolutely love how you’ve included your name in the castings. Excellent work! John W

    Deals on Alibre

Agreed. On my 20th birthday I huddled in a hole while under a rocket attack in DaNang. When I got off the plane in San Diego I was spit on, and after I got out I was turned down for 3 jobs because “We don’t hire Vietnam Vets”. If those are the kind of friggin’ taxpayers gweloboy is referring...

    25 HP Nash

One of my jobs during my time in the US Navy was sheetmetal work. Building sheetmetal transitions for everything ranging from 10 inch ductwork all the way up to 8 foot plenums for air supply to boilers. Geometric layout and construction required some careful work, especially on multiple angle...

Gingery metal shaper in cast iron?

I love my little Atlas Craftsman 7B, and like Andrew said, fast, cheap tooling, and a wonderful finish. Will it replace a vertical mill? Nope, but as an adjunct it can’t be beat. Also, just like Andrew, I can set it and let it run while my mill is being utilized for another task. John W

    25 HP Nash

I like that transition piece Doug. Great workaround toward getting a smooth bend. I may steal that idea for future tubing bends! John W

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Sorry, I completely overlooked the picture you mention! While in the US Navy, my rating was Shipfitter which included all different forms of ship’s repair duties. From heavy plate, sheetmetal, high pressure hull and pipe welding, and fitting new pipes. As you can imagine, removing formed...

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Nice bit of “plumbing”! Did you use your heads as the target block, or make a special form? John W

    Offenhauser Mighty Midget Racing engine

Looking forward to following your build. Ambitious project, but one that’ll be rewarding! John W

    A 15cc sidevalve opposed twin

Wow Pete, that’s an amazing bit of machine work Pard, and I’m sweating bullets when I have to tap 4-40, let alone anything as small as those tapped holes. How many set ups did that part require? BTW, I feel your pain. I’ve also spent hours on a part only to find that my overzealous twirling...

    1/3 Scale Case Steam engine

I carried a high pressure pipe and nuclear certification (as well as airframe tig and high pressure gas silver braze) while in the Navy but didn’t keep my cert current after getting out, but the listed criteria are more than adequate for a low pressure system. John W

    25 HP Nash

Thanks Doug, I’ll have to give that method a try. John

    25 HP Nash

Doug, I’m looking at the “Odds and Ends” by Phil Duclos as a build after “Pioneer”. As I don’t have the required spur gear cutting tools, do you recommend going the extra mile and building the modified gear hob you built, or putting up with the thump-thump-thump of the Duclos profiled single...

    A 15cc sidevalve opposed twin

Nice work Pete. I love the design, and can’t wait to hear your first run! John W

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

He does some pretty incredible work with his (he has 2 resin and 2 filament printer running all the time) doing props for Star Wars/Mandalorian fans. I think there’s a learning curve, but once you figure out the fine points, it’s a hell of an improvement. He broke a piece on one coming out of...

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

I agree with the thoughts regarding flammable liquid spills Harvey, especially in an indoor show! As we say in HazMat response, “The flammable range WILL be present somewhere…” John W

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

Thanks Andy, my son is going to try a special resin he has for his led printer so we will see how that turns out. He’s having some trouble with the 3d modeling as he doesn’t usually work in imperial measurements. He also doesn’t do threaded fittings, so I’m having him size the holes for the...

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

I was thinking of having my son 3d print the demand valve blocks to fit a diaphragm kit. I’d like to do away with the huge amounts of swarf removed from blocks of aluminum if at all possible. The quick connects look like a great idea, so I’ll probably incorporate those into any of my plans. As...

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

Camp Verde, AZ, USA! Really nice setup Harvey. I’m wondering if there’s a compatible plastic that I could have my son 3D print for me. I’ll have to do some research! John W

    Propane for Rudy’s Pioneer

Thanks Dave, next time I get a minute to try it out, I’ll take a piece of tape to it! BTW, my maternal great grandparents originated form somewhere near your location in West Cork. My IRA great grandfather escaped just a bit ahead of the British army enroute to America. Different times for...
